Are there external crossover devices available for bass.
I.e before bass head input. Some bass heads have crossover
functionality inside.

Bass->crossover->bass-head->passive speaker
Bass->crossover->PA (mixer)->discant speaker

My idea is to split the signal before it goes to the preamplifier (bass head).

Thank you for your time!

Do you actually want a frequency divider, or do you just want a signal splitter? Two different animals. Crossovers are of course available as external devices starting in the $90 range (new) and going up. Splitters are harder to find, but are also available.

Direct Box is the easiest way to split signal to the monitor and the PA. It just splits the signal to two directions.

What about external frequency divider? Can you give names of any workable exernal bass frequency divider? For example Ampeg SVT 4 Pro bass head has internal crossover. I am looking for external crossover, because my bass head does not have internal crossover.

Thank you for your time!

The Behringer CX2310 would be high on my list of inexpensive crossovers. It even has a subwoofer output. I'd want something to boost the level of an instrument going into it, though.

The xovers are all line level. What EXACTLY are you trying to accomplish?

This job can be easily handled by the Tech 21 Sansamp Bass device.

Tailored to send the actual sound of one of a handful of great bass amps to the PA while still sending your regular signal to your amp, the Sansamp Bass also makes an excellent Direct Box for recording as well.

Fits in your bass case, no bass player should be without one IMO.

Exactly my question John. Unless you want to send your signal to 2 different amps this would serve zero purpose. Once you'd set the crossover point at whatever frequency you would never hear that frequency at all, and there are harmonics involved with any instrument that would get lost. If you tell your crossover to cut anything about 400hz, you will never hear 401 and up.

Gotta get me one of those SansAmp DI boxes. Right now I haul around a Behringer Bass V-amp pro and it's just inconvenient size-wise and I only use 2 presets that I've tweaked on it anyways. Sounds better than most mic'ed cabs and the sound engineer loves me for keeping stage volumes in control.

Okay I just read this again. You just want to split the signal into 2 halves or DIVIDE the signal by frequency range? By definition this is what a direct box is. Confused.
