I just purchased 2 new computers, one for my wife and one for myself. They are basically the same,---Windows 7, 64-bit; AMD A8 quad core w/ 4GB ram. I installed my BIAB 2009.5 from my discs, then installed my BIAB 2012 upgrade,---all went well on my computer. When I tried to install it into my wife's machine (which is the one I use when we travel), 2 of the disks would not load correctly (RealDrums 1-6; and one of the Realtracks discs). They just come to a dead stop on a file and give me the option to retry, abort or skip. Retry did not work, I just hit skip. It would begin loading for a few more seconds, then hit another file that did the same thing. This went on from file to file,---any idea why the install went well on one machine but not the other? Thanks in advance!

I've seen this happen with some CD drives if the CD has paper labels.Take the disc and put it in the drive of your computer and make a copy to a new CDR then put it in your wife's machine and see if this works.

You could also try a CD cleaning disc in your wife's PC. I realize it is new so this has only an outside chance of helping but it costs little to try.

Since your computers are new, check with other CDs. Maybe the drive (where the CD was burnt) is on the far end of some tolerances compared to your new drive -- shouldn't but could. I've seen some odd things.

Silvertones gave the hint. Make a copy of the CD on another computer. And really, check your wife's computer with other CDs to see if the failure is solitaire or occurs more often.

Yes, Silvertones gave a very good test. One difficulty is that a CDR is harder to read than a pressed CD/DVD, so a marginal CD/DVD player might fail on that when it might read a pressed CD.

There is always the possibility the drive is defective. As GHinCH suggests, first try some other commercially produced CDs or DVDs and make sure they work.

Sounds like one of the machines has a flaky CD drive in it.

Also sounds like it may be a warranty issue if it is a new puter.

Remember, it's a new computer to YOU. How long ago was it made, how was it handled during shipping, how long did it sit in stock...... I would do what Silvertones said. Or if you are networking savvy, share the optical drive on the one that had no glitched and install from that shared optical drive. As long as you pay attention to pathing when you install it will go well.

Great! Sometimes those labels can be an issue.
