Hi,
I searched the forums but didn't find the answer that I had hoped to find. I have a song that I created in BIAB and now I am using RealBand to record my vocals. My chain is (input) Mic -->TC Helicon VoiceLive Play GTX --> MIXER/CD-TAPE out --> Diamond Extreme external USB sound card/line in. Output chain is laptop --> USB souncard/out --> MIXER/CD-TAPE in. I monitor the song playing with mixer's headphone/control room out. As I record the vocal track after 7 or 8 bars, my vocal gets ahead of the song (not just a bit but a lot) I am using the MME driver setting in audio settings. Any suggestions to get me going?
Todd

Have you set the card to "Direct Input Monitoring"?This is what needs to be done. If the card doesn't support that, which I'm sure it does, you'll have to use ASIO. What's happening is you are monitoring your vocals through the software thus causing latency. If you use DIM well it speaks for itself. With ASIO you're monitoring through the software but with very little to no latency.

PS I seem to remember looking at the Diamond cards and determined that they were not a good choice for what we do. More geared for DJs. I could be wrong.

ASIO typically yields latency in the 10 msec range, which is inaudible to most listeners. Depending on your PC you may need to pay attention to buffer size and other settings.

Sorry. I should have said," He doesn't need ASIO yet".I want him to first check on direct input monitoring as this will work better for him.

Hey John,
I don't see a setting on the card's control panel for direct input monitoring. Could I be looking in the wrong place?

Todd, This is a $27 card at KMart.I couldn't really find anything in the manual that was helpful at all.My suggestion would be to get yourself something like an MAudio Fast Track. I wish I could help you more but that's the best advice I can give.
