Friends, I'm rapidly losing my dexterity in my right (good) hand and using a mouse is progressively more difficult. The Veteran's Administration will pay for it if I provide a link and a supplier. Frankly, I don't know where to begin looking nor what I am looking for. My first thought was a trackball until I just saw this Logitech touch pad interface: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/touchpad-t650. I'm still running Windows 7/64 but the specs say it will work with Win 7 or 8. I like this concept but I am concerned about mis-selecting due to a dragging pinky. Its not a fortune to audition it and Amazon offers a great return privilege. Am I missing a better option?

In keeping this music-related, it must be compatible with BIAB, of course.

TIA

Don,

I've used a trackball before and it probably would be easier for you than a mouse. The ball on mine was large and rolled extremely easy and the buttons for left and right click were easier than a mouse.

Good luck.

Don,

You might want to look at the Wacom Intuous tablets. They are mostly for digital photo editing, but I've used one like a mouse, and they work well.

I neglected to mention, on this outing, that I can't grip a stylus. I make selections by fingertip touch while a dangling pinky causes chaos. Further, I use an onscreen keyboard and a mouse to type. That keeps my self-control well honed and exercised. LOL. Thanks for your input though.

Yes, Bobpicker, that's where I was sashaying and sauntering (nobody could sashay or saunter like John Wayne) when I stumbled over the Logitech Input Pad. I found it for $55 plus S&H but some vendors (not Amazon) make up their pseudo-discount by gouging on S&H. Been there, done that! A Daily Special $2.49, 8 Gig, USB memory stick ended up costing me $19.50 each. I had ordered 10 so I yelped. Amazon dropped that vendor in a heartbeat.

Incidentally, I'm very impressed with Amazon. When I recently ordered my 32-inch TV/Monitor they were temporarily sold out so subbed a 40-inch at absolutely no additional charge. A difference of over 100 Bux! That sold me on Amazon.

Hi Don, I'm also having trouble using a conventional mouse due to arthritis in my wrist. I was lucky enough to come across a "vertical mouse" made by Evoluent - www.evoluent.com - which allows you to grip the mouse with your hand in an upright position. It's made life much easier for me. Don't know if it will help you, but it could be worth having a look.

I can second the vertical mouse. I was having some serious problems and this mouse helped me get over them. Fortunately I'm no longer having the problems I was, and I attribute this mouse as being a big part of the improvement.

I've tried tablets and the Vertical Mouse, and I would recommend you try the Vertical Mouse, Don.

Wow Mike, I had no idea that so many options existed. Thank you sincerely.

Now, the question becomes; which option will make onscreen keyboarding easiest for me? Since I have two separate applications, desktop (which I run from across the room) and my Dynavox which is mounted on my power wheelchair which has a touch screen, I hope to cover both with a single pointing device.

Its no longer easy for me to mentally envision the ramifications of compound schemes and I used to do that easily all day long before my stroke. Now I need help in planning my breakfast due to the several food options. Add the fact that on Tuesday and Thursday the options change. My solution has become...eat what's brought, the same liquidy scrambled eggs every morning for three years straight without complaint. Oatmeal and cappuccino is keeping me alive. You don't know what I'd give for one fried egg, sunny side up, with a piece of toast. The tiny pleasures I always took for granted.

Beautiful tip, Mike. I emailed the Oklahoma equivalent and I'm awaiting their reply now. That would be awesome if I could "trial evaluate" my options. Its virtually impossible to know without testing first. Thanks so much for the heads up, Mike.

Wow, friends! The rep from Oklahoma Department Of Rehabilitation just walked out of my room and she's recommending BOTH an iPad AND the Logitech Input Pad. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Mike. I fully realize the difference between RECOMMENDING and GETTING, but she assured me that they have many sources of funding if the VA can't help. A wonderful start to my weekend.
