I plan to order 2013 on the USB HD with a download as well. Is the following the correct procedure?
1. DL 2013 over 10.5 on the OLD HD the software shipped on. That, I assume, preserves all existing song files.
2. For backup, Copy the above onto my PC HD which has TONS of room. That, I assume would get me a 13 on top of 10.5 version installed on my PC HD. Correct?
3. Copy the installation in #1 above onto the NEW USB HD in order to have 2013 installed on top of 10.5 but on a NEW HD to capture whatever technology improvements there might be vs. the HD that shipped in 2010.
(Do I need to first DELETE 2013 on the NEW HD and THEN copy the version created in #1 in order to actually get 13 installed "on top of" 10.5? For clarity...is it best NOT to install a "13 over 10.5 version onto the NEW HD that already has 13 installed?)
I plan to run BIAB off the USB HD.
Doest that all make sense?

I would just do # 1 & 2. Same the NEW 2013 HD as is for a backup.

If you ordered the HD from pgmusic, there wouldn't be any need to copy 2013 onto it as that will come already installed on it.

Right. What I was saying was...What if I want to get "13 on top of 10.5" on the NEW HD delivered by PG with my order....in order to be able to run BIAB from the NEW HD rather than the old one.

I'm not following that logic.
The new hd, when delivered, will already have 13 on it...
Are you trying to say that you want to replace the new version with the old one on the new drive?

Sorry for my confusing post. PG Sales responed to an e-mail saying thatthe new HDs do have more advanced technology and so I should run BIAB off of it and not the old one.
But most of your top guns suggest to install the newer version over the older.
Since the NEW HD will already have 13 installed, if I were to load 10.5 from the OLD drive onto the NEW one wouldn't that screw things up?
So, if I want to run BIAB off the NEW HD....AND I want to follow the advice of installing the new version over the old one....how would I do that correctly????
I am ordering NOW...and will just install the DL version of 13 over the existing 10.5 version on the old HD so, I will be good to go...but will be running the software over the OLD HD.
By the time the NEW HD arrives, I'd like to figure out how to begin running BIAB from the NEW HD including all my song files and probably "legacy" styles that may no longer be on 13.(preserving those legacy styles is one reason I've seen to install the new version over the old...correct???)
Does that make better sense???

HA!!!! New plan!
First, I'm going to wait several days until some of the issues brought up on the forum have been addressed with patches.
Then, I'm jost going to disregard the DL option since the process is over my head with DL managers etc. I'm not desperate to start running the new versio so I'm just going to wait until the HD arrives! (-:
Having said that...is it correct that I do the following.
1. Copy the data from the NEW HD with 13 pre-installed onto the OLD HD with 10.5 installed giving me the "13 over 10.5" installation on the OLD HD.
Doing the above should get me 13 AND all existing song files and legacy styles onto the OLD HD....correct?
Now rather than set forth how I would go about getting all the existing song files and legacy styles from the OLD HD onto the NEW HD from which I would typically run BIAB...let me just ask you smart folks how to do that.

Is the issue here that you want to make a backup of the New version on the Old drive?
Or is this an issue of wanting to have your old drive's songfiles available on the new drive?
Have you installed the old version to C drive or do you always run it from the USB drive?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to be so dense. Yes, my objective is to get my existing song files onto the new HD but I'm quite sure I can do that.
I don't have any user-created files but I've read that certain of the older "legacy" song files aren't included in newer versions so that when people load up one of their older songs they might get a "style not found" message. So, lots of folks here have suggested that we always install a new version over the old one.
To be honest, preserving those legacy styles isn't that big a deal for me. If I ever got a "style not found" message, I'd just pick another one which might even be better.
Mostly, I just want to accomplish this upgrade the way you "pros" would do it. So, let me start over.
I am going to order 13 EverythingPak on a USB HD.
I am not going to download anything...I'll just wait for the HD to arrive with 13 installed.
I have an existing USB HD with 10.5 installed.
I will generally run BIAB off the new HD since PG Support has informed me that the new HDs are better than the old.
Given the above, what is the best procedure?

You should always keep your song files on a separate partition or at least in a separate folder. The advantage of this should be obvious.
1. You can back up your own data (which you generally cannot buy from anywhere, unlike programs) very easily once a week or whatever degree of considered paranoia most fits your caution
2. You can play your songs with more than a single version of BnBox
You can keep your Song Files (your data) on your computer rather than the BnBox HD, if you like, so you can run older version of BnBox from your older HD, and run newer version from the new HD.
I would also suggest that you save BnBox configuration files, preferences, special notes in a subdirectory of your Song Files, in case things mess up and you need to re-configure.
In Fact, it makes far more sense also to have the HD in your computer partitioned, or use more than a single HD so that:
For Windows OS etc.
1 You Operating System (OS) and programs are all on one partition (or one HD-1
2 Your DATA on another partition (or HD-2)
I generally configure systems with C: OS & Programs D: Data E: Downloads F: Backups (for Image backups)
Advantage -if you have to re-load your OS after wiping C:, your DATA will still be happy and undisturbed on another partition (or HD). Image backup programs (I use Acronis) need to have a storage location other than the C: drive which you are backing up. While an external USB 2.0 HD is great for backup, it will be slower than back up to your main HD. Once you have your image backup you can copy to your ext HD and thus have 2 copies for safety purposes.
