I have been using a Ketron SD2 for about four years now, on the recommendation of Mac and others. It has done well, and I have been happy.

Now it has suddenly stopped working. Appears to be a short. The little blue "on" light is off, but briefly lights at times when pressed. The audio is unpredictably and frequently interrupted. It needs repair... I checked inside, and the fuse is OK. It is out of warranty.

The question: Google finds quite a number of USA Ketron sites, which mostly appear to be distributors -- the product is from Italy. Does any one know (Mac?) who in the USA is actually reliably able to repair these things?? Or will it need to go to Italy?

Thanks for any help.

You are positive it's that? If you hook it via a cable to a keyboard can that input drive the audio?

I'd use more than one reliable source of driving this, I have one, and unlike some other stuff like the JV1010 Roland, there seems no way to get a demo running or push a button to audition sounds.

A computer midi port can be finicky. At best plugging in headphones, taking a midi cable to a keyboard or store selling them on the guise of trying out midi OUT and In would ensure you have a defect in the unit.

What do they retail for now? PGmusic were resellers of this, you might be best to ask them, or drive by, it's just up the coast after all!

This may help, otherwise Highway 101 is the scenic route Norf! Coastline all the way, beautiful.

Seriously, looks like the US headquarters is in NY. You would, most likely, send it to NY for repair. However, they may have a factory-authorized service center in CA.

Thanks, guys... John, I tried all those things, different cabling, different keyboard, wiggling stuff... it's an internal short, or maybe a bad "on" switch.

I call PG Support and got what looks like a reliable import place in Brooklyn, where PG gets its supply, but there's no one home.

Meanwhile, I have a KORG NS5R which works just peachy as a GM module.

Thanks again.

I don't know of any repair facility in the states but that does not mean there isn't one, first oontact Ketron US and see if they recommend a place.

If all else fails, report back here, maybe I'll feel like volunteering to take a stab at it on my electronics bench, with the caveat that I don't think there are Service Manuals or Schematics available here for the thing. Moss-Magnuson act could be invoked here, though, dunno the recent status. That Act made it a law that mfrs have to supply owners with the service info or schematic, but it was enacted back in the 70s and, well, you know...

Thanks, Mac, for the generous offer... I have spoke with a tech with Ketron US on the east coast, and he sounds authoritative and reliable -- so far. The unit is on its way. They do not send them back to Italy

Will report back here in a couple of weeks with a followup about whether they did a good job or not.
