I am a second time user of BB, the first time I bought it was when it came on floppy discs !!

I have been playing around with the BB 2007 Demo for a couple of days with no real problems so decided to buy the full version yesterday. One problem I am now having is when I load a song and press play it sends a midi START message to my keyboards (Technics KN7000) sequencer so as well as the BB song playing I also have my keyboards drum track playing. I can get over this by switching my keyboards 'Realtime Commands' to off, but this didn't happen with the demo.

Is there any way to turn off the midi start message when play is pressed in BB ?

Hi Glen,

If you go along the top bar of BIAB to GM > in the dropdown > Send Midi Messages - you will find a handful of options to tick or untick to suit your need

Thanks for the quick reply

Taking a look at the menu you suggest I can't find anything that relates to turning off a start command.

I'm hoping there is an option somewhere because it didn't happen with the Demo.

I'm now not clear on this. You mean the programs starts when you don't want it to, or it's sending a midi message to your keyboard?

When you load a song via the song picker there is a box that says play the song when loaded.

In the Prefs Midi setup dialog there is the opportunity to send a midi reset GS GM etc as the song starts.

The next problem is you can have a midi file that has stuff in it the program didn't put there but just exists, espeically if you imported a midi file.

If I start BB, then just press start, the auto accompaniment on my keyboard starts playing (just drums) so I get a mixture of my keyboards drums playing and the BB style playing.

That must be a setting inside your keyboard somewhere.

Can you describe in detail your keyboard, midi interface and setup in general?

I only use midi out from my keyboard it goes to a Ketron with the thru function in band in a box. From there to the jv1010 if I want to layer another sound. From both of those to a mixer.

If you are trying to use your keyboard as your midi device it must be a heck of a keyboard, because the Dxi syth that comes with band in a box has better sounds that most keyboards.

The keyboard, a Technics KN7000 has some great sounds, I have not heard a software synth yet that sounds better. I think it sold in the US for about $2500.00 so its a reasonable keyboard that supports GM2. Its connected via a USB lead to the computer and uses a special Panasonic USB midi in and out driver. I'm using it as the main Midi sound source with Cubase 5 without any problems.

If there is no obvious setting in BIAB to turn off this midi start option when pressing play I can live with that as there is an option within the keyboard to turn off Realtime messages, its just strange it didn't happen when I was using the 2007 Demo.

Many thanks for your help

Glen

Hi GAJ52,

There is a setting for that in Band-in-a-Box. Click on Opt. | Preferences | MIDI Options, and un-check 'Output Sync/Start info'.
