When invoked the bass is supposed to play root and 5th in the A section and quarter notes only in the B section. I get plenty of 8th notes even after the "very simple" filter is invoked in the real tracks dialogue. Should it not just be root and 5th and quarter notes only (in B) to fulfill this description of the feature.

I'm glad it is not only me. I mentioned this and was told it would be fixed in a patch last week. Try the Midi SuperTrack with the new Hi-Q SampleTank Acoustic Bass. Very nice sound and you can edit the bass part. See the post HERE

"very simple bass" is why I upgraded the program (only) after shelling out for 2012.5.....I feel a bit ripped about it, especially after downloading all of the upgrades. Is PG Music becomming careless, or just don't give a crap if they can live up to their promises?

Wow, a BC native, bashing a BC company and it's not the pipeline war.
A phone call or nudge in an email would be far more in order than making accusations of being ripped off. I think the money back if you are not satisfied might be more to your liking, I don't do much where I push the bass line to go simple, but I bet there are many ways to do this, and you've not yet figured them out.
There is a learning curve. If there was NONe, the software would be useless in short order.

Good job all us old croakers are not in a nursing home together, else the sparks would be flying. Gee, I just said I was a 'bit" ripped. I have been a user since the first year BIAB was published for cryin' out loud. Seems like they did'nt test this version much. Oh well, I will be a little less in a hurry to spend my upgrade money next time...better to wait until they sort it out first - 2 updates in just a few days, wow!

I have to say that a lot of the jazz bass lines were a bit suspicious right from the beginning of RealTracks. There was an improvement with the 'simple' approach but still I am sometimes left wondering where '1' is. My BB2013 is on order and I'll be interested to see if there is further improvement.
On you Rachel and others! Keep up the crusade! Correct bass lines are the heart and soul of jazz arranging (one of my major uses of BB), improvising and generating the feel of 'swing'.
Hey, I am still a major fan of Band-in-a-Box and really looking forward to the new version and the new jazz RealTracks.

Many different users and viewpoints about this subject. Some of us demand that bass player whom others find all over the place or otherwise make it hard for them to hear the tonic. Others of us hear the tonic in our heads and desire the more outside stuff sometimes.
What is wonderful is how pgmusic attempts to respond to all these different tastes and demands IMO.
The fact that one autoaccompaniment program can cover full on Modern Jazz while at the same time can change over to something like Celtic stuff or any of what is becoming a large assortment of particulars while still doing justice to all of them is just marvelous.

It's a testimony to the fact that they aren't just stringing loops together randomly... it all works because they understand the rules of music and they've done the best job in the industry of programmatically applying music theory to the inner workings of a music program.
