Has anyone run a voice live 2 thru a mixer and then to biab? How did it pan out? Another question does 2013 still work with windows XP? Thanks

Critter,
BIAB 2013 works fine in XP. I don't know about the other.

I intentionally used an XP laptop for much of the beta testing on BB2012, ran just fine.
As for the VoiceLive2, your question is not specific enough.
Is it the Audio Output of the VL2 that you wish to run through mixer to BB? That likely will work.
Not sure about doing that with VL2 audio INPUTS, though, that might get problematic, depending on how its done and operated.

Yes, you can run the VL2 thru a mixing desk and then connect to your computer. I'm not sure why you want to use the VL2 as a vocal processor in BiaB though. You might consider using RealBand or any other DAW for recording vocals and other tracks you don't use from BiaB.
Could you tell more about what you want to achieve with the VL2 and the mixing desk? That way I can give you a better answer to your question.

I want to go back to my old school ways, that have turned out many cd's of songs, both original and covers. The plan is to use my new Zoom R-8 for recording, the 24 channel board for inputs, instruments, etc. my somewhat old rack effects such as BBE, compressor, gate, EQ, etc. I am hoping to get the VL2 in the loop for harmonies. I will also be using Realtracks for songs etc. as backing tracks. I know it might sound lame but I am tired of fighting computer glitches which I am sure is my fault but I'm 60 and not able I guess to understand ins and outs..........The VL2 is great but in my new windows 7 computer can't get it to operate as in old XP computer. The midi track works fine, my vocals I can monitor but can't hear RB tracks, I tried many times to fix but..... so it's impossible to record vocal tracks. Thanks for listening to me ramble............

My Rhode NT2 and my guitar goes into the VL2 and than to a 4 port small beringer mixer than out into an M-Audio Usb which goes into my pc.
I thsn have another 8 port mixer - i take one ctrl room out from the smaller one into it and also the output from the M-Audio usb. THIS mixers ctr room outputs goes to my M-Audio BX5 monitors. This is how I get the recording inputs in and audio monitoring,
Works for me....
I'm doing allright for Country Trash ....
I used to care, but things have changed (Bob Dylan)

OK, so you want to record completely Out of The Box? I don't know what type of 24 channel mixing desk you have, but in this example I will assume it is something similar to the Yamaha MG24/14.
You want your 24 channel desk (referred to as desk from now on) to be the heart of the studio and you want the R8 to be your multitrack recorder. All of your instruments and outboard gear are hooked up to the desk, monitors are also connected to the desk. The R8 acts as the computer interface. input- and outputchannels on the desk are used as indication in this example: you can patch the inputs and outputs to your needs and wants.
DESK: input channel 1: Vocal input channel 2: Guitar input channel 3: Keyboard L input channel 4: Keyboard R input channel 5: Output R8 L input channel 6: Output R8 R input channel 7: Output VL2 L input channel 8: Output VL2 R Plus whatever other input devices you may want to connect.
Outputs desk: Main out L+R --> Monitors (or power amp --> monitors) Aux out 1 --> Line in VL2 Aux out 2 --> aux in VL2 Aux out 3 --> input 1 R8 Aux out 4 --> input 2 R8 Plus other output paths you may want to create for outboard gear
How does it work? In this set-up you can choose to record everything in one take or record every track one by one without having to mess around with your cables and conections. Here's how you go about making a multitrack recording. I assume you let BiaB lay down the backingtracks, so let's start with those. It is not clear to me if the R8 can record directly from the USB-input, but let's assume it can not.
* You can adjust your monitor volume and sources using the faders on the desk*
1: Play the BiaB file. The output from the R8 comes in the desk on channel 5 and 6. Make sure you set the aux levels 3 and 4 (they lead to the input of the R8) for resp. channel 5 and 6 so that your signal comes in at around 0dB on the R8. Set aux 3 and 4 to PFL (pre fader listening). Select the channels on the R8 you want to record the BiaB tracks to and start the recording. (ch 5 --> aux 3 --> R8 input 1 and ch 6 --> aux 4 --> R8 input 2.)
2: Make sure you reset the aux levels so that no signal is sent to any aux outputs after this recording.
3: Let's record some guitar. On the R8 select the channels containing the BiaB tracks to play back and select a channel to record your guitar to (R8 input 1)
4: Set Aux 3 (leads to R8 input 1) on the desk so that your signal comes in at 0dB on the R8. Make sure that aux 3 is set to PFL.
5: Start playback and recording. You can adjust your monitor levels using the faders; this will not interfere with your recording.
6: Make sure you reset the aux levels so that no signal is sent to any aux outputs after this recording.
7: Time for vocals. Select the channnels on the R8 you want the vocals to record to. Select the BiaB tracks and/or the guitartrack to playback.
8: Your microphone comes into the desk on channel 1. Set aux 1 for this channel so that you get a good signal into the VL2. Make sure that aux 1 is set to PFL
9: The R8 comes in the desk on channels 5 and 6. Set aux 2 for these channels so that you get a good signal into the aux in on the VL2. Make sure aux 2 is set to PFL
10: The VL2 comes into the desk on ch. 7 and 8. Set aux 3 on ch 7 and aux 4 on channel 8 so that you get a good signal into the R8. Start playback/recording.
When all parts are recorded you can use the R8 to mixdown to a stereo wav-file.
Keep in mind that every signal from aux 3 and 4 lead to the input of the R8; that is what you record. If you want to record everything at once, you make your recording mix using the aux 3 and aux 4 levels on each channel.
Should you encounter a feedback loop when recording vocals, make sure you mute the monitor-output for the vocal and VL2 channels on the R8: your monitor mix is made on the desk.
I hope this helps. If not; don't hesitate to ask.

I use (and love) a Voicelive Play GTX (guitarists version of the voicelive 2. guitar and mic goes to the GTX and and the right and left channels from the GTX go to the balanced mic inputs on the mixer. I run the GTX in dual mono where the guitar with effects goes through the right channel and the vocals through the left.

Very good info, now once I rearrange my studio/mess room I can start hooking things up and hope I can find the boxes with all the cables etc. Also I should explain the board I have, after looking at it, it has 20 tracks, 13 thru 20 are two on one faders, I will give you the name of board so maybe you can find a manual online, SPIRIT FOLIO SX, BY SOUNDCRAFT. It's at least 12 years old. Hope that helps, keep me updated. Thanks

In your case I would use either the direct output (set to PRE FADER) on the microphone channel of the desk to feed to the line-in on the VL2 or plug the microphone direct into the VL2. Use Aux 1 and 2 (set to PRE FADER) on the desk to feed the R8 input 1 and 2. Use Aux 3 (is post fader) to feed the aux input on the VL2. Note: If you want to feed a pre-recorded vocal into the VL2, make sure that you feed the vocal channel on the R8 to channel 5 on the desk (=output R8 L in the example) by panning the vocal channel hard left on the R8 and selecting this channel for playback on the R8. Use the direct out of channel 5 on the desk to feed the line in on the VL2. Route the BiaB tracks and or guitar tracks from the R8 to channel 6 on the desk. Same routine as above. Use aux 3 knob of channel 6 on the desk to feed the music into the aux input of the VL2. Most important here is knowing and understanding signal routes. This Soundcraft guide to mixing may help anyone understand the ins and outs of a mixing desk better.

Did all you TC Helicon folks see this?? Christmas Comes Early: 500 new & FREE presets for VoiceLive 2, Touch and Rack One thing is for certain, the Holidays are going to be a whole lot more fun this year! As an early Christmas present to you, we’re giving away 500 new and FREE artists and genre presets for all users of VoiceLive 2, Touch and Rack. In November we released the preset mega-pack “More Play” for VoiceLive Play and Play GTX. Since then we’ve been hard at work converting all those presets for the rest of the VoiceLive Series (VoiceLive 2, VoiceLive 2 Extreme, VoiceLive Rack, and VoiceLive Touch) and now it’s done, gift-wrapped and waiting for you to import from VoiceSupport. In fact, we’re adding the entire factory bank from VoiceLive Play too, making it a total of 751 presets ready for you (while ’751 presets’ is not as catchy as ’500 presets’ we hope you don’t mind the free addition…)! Covering all styles and genres – from Gangnam Style to Whiter Shade of Pale – it should keep any singer happy well into 2013. Discover your sound via the songs you like, or go on a random walk of presets for inspiration. OMG it looks real: http://tcgroup.cmail2.com/t/y-l-jdxjik-wtrhdxij-c/

Yep, got the mail. Will download them for fun and education. I do make my own (or adjust existing) styles. But it's always good to learn how other people reach certain goals and go about doing things. Sharing knowledge cost nothing, getting it is priceless.

More great info, thanks. Here's a question I have been wondering, can I take an sdhc card put a RB song on it, no vocals, in wav format and put it in the R-8 as a stereo mix and work it that way or should I just use lines out of computer to say tracks 1-2 on R-8 to record it? Still reading R-8 manual and haven't found the answer there yet. Thanks
