I've recently came into posession of an old but functioning Roland Sound Canvas SC-88 Pro.
I'm a first-time RB user and I can't figure out how to assign a track to a patch and see the name of the preset. RB should have the expander patch map already included.
Can somebody please help me, or at least to kindly point me where to look if it's inside RB?

Options - Patch Names To get the true patch map go to support section and download the custom patch map. http://www.pgmusic.com/support_miscellaneous.htm

I must be very dumb, as I haven't been able to find the patches.ini file the instructions talks about... does anybody know if the instructions are accurate?

The patches ini file you download is further down the page .. unless you mean you can't find it on your computer. Maybe you have System Files marked as Hidden?
Second time in the last week someone can't find an ini file?
Wonder why, which OS?

I can't find the *.ini files they're talking about INSIDE the BB folder OR the RB folder, for that matter.
Once I've copied the downloaded .pat and *ini files inside the respective folders I just can't figure out how to access'em from RB. All I see is the default content.
I hope this is clearer now.

Oh ..
You have to use Windows Explorer to see them. They are not changed or edited in RB or BiaB, but rather in notepad or other text editor. The process includes renaming the files though, which you would do inside Windows Explorer.
Whichever file is named Patches.ini is the one used (in RB)
You rename the old one to something like patchesOriginal.ini (so RB doesn't use it but you can still rename it back if needed) and then rename the new one to patches.ini
Has to be done in that order so you don't rename the new one over top of the old (original) one and lose it as your safety net.
Pretty much it in a nutshell.
Making new ini files is another story. All those patch.ini files listed in support were done by PGMusic volunteers adding what they made to the collection as they went along.
Kudos to the people doing that.

I've finally found the patches.ini. It was located in the C:\RealBand folder, and I was looking for a RealBand folder inside the C:\BB folder. I apologize. Brain fart! Brain fart!
