I built a track using _BG-BDBS & the bass is not consistent.. Last year I sent a file to PG Music & they said it played OK for them.. But every track I try to make using this with a Banjo Solo, the bass isn't good. I burned it to CD & the bass fades out, I sent a finished song to several people & they played it, but all said the bass wasn't heard at times.. Can anyone help me with this ?? don't know if it's the way I'm doing this or if it's my computer, but if it is, why wouldn't others hear the bass? I will be glad to send the track to anyone to listen to.. I have BIAB 2013..

Hi Johnny,

It sounds like the "Fade" option could be present for the bass. To reset this ...

1. Click on the first bar of the song.

2. Press F5 (or right-click and choose "Bar Settings").

3. When the below menu pops up, scroll to the very bottom and click on "Reset All Bars". (I've highlighted this in the image.)

4. "Ok" your way out of the menu.

5. If the Bass track is "Frozen", it's necessary to "Unfreeze" it by right-clicking on the "Bass" slot and selecting "Unfreeze".

6. Regenerate the song.

If the "Fades" option was inadvertently activated, this will clear it.

All the best,
Noel

Johnny,I do hear the inconsistent volume levels using bass#427. Using the song Gentle On My Mind,C,18 bars,3 choruses. The bar effected most IS BAR # 12. First chorus-bar 11 is C --CMaj7--,12 is Dm----. Bass is lower than normal. 2nd. chorus, # 11 normal, bar #12,first 2 beats are silent, although a Dm is required on beat #1. Beats 3&4 are somewhat audable. Chorus # 3 played o.k.. I repeated this at least 6 times with the same results. I also selected RealBass#1137(consistant and still acoustic) and Bass #1293, better still(electric)GASP. The change from 1Maj7 to 2Min. is a little bit clumbsy for Mr.Tomlin.------Leon

Why not just upload and provide a link to the group here. Then someone will open and give a listen immediately. The actual file will save a lot of back and forth guessing...

Hi Johnny,

This is normal behavior. BIAB files are backwards compatible so if you friends have BIAB ver. 2011, then when they open the file, it will open in their version. If, however, your friends have ver. 2013 and when they double-click on it to open it, then there is something strange happening.

If you want to send me the file that would be great. Send it to ...

All the best,
Noel

This is a free service, you only have to give them a valid email address. Then you will be able to upload any file, picture, video, mp3 or BIAB song to your free account. Once uploaded it will provide a URL which you simply cut and paste into this forum. It is simple.

1) http://www.imageshack.us/
If you don't host your own website and server in order to upload images, files, videos and post links in forums, I found this site/sevice to be excellent for doing just that. Free and easy. You can upload and then obtain a URL to whatever you place there to post in the forum.

Thanks Leon, I wrote to Tech, & they said that because it was recorded in a Studio by live musicians the existing bass can't be changed. I would think something like that would noticed & caught , then have the bass player redo it, because the Style as is, is completely useless. Bar 1 is D, G, & the G chord isn't heard at all in some bars..
I may have to redo it with a different bass (electric), if I can find one , my tempo is 130, key of D, or a different Style & mport that banjo.

That's an older RealTracks (#427, from June 2008 ). Issue would likely be that some wma files need to be normalized (in folder C:\bb\RealTracks\Bass, Acoustic, Bluegrass Ev 130 ).

On a quick listen, it does seem that some of the wma's are quieter than others, so maybe they all didn't get normalized.

We'll look into it, and if it improves things, will add that to the next RealTracks patch. That fix would also fix any old songs that you made, since they would generate with the new audio.

In the meantime, if you wanted to fix it for this song, you'd likely need to export the separate tracks to a DAW, then normalize the bass track, and see if that helps.

Have Fun!

confirmed, I guess that is why they call it "image" shack.

So try, www.box.com, same thing but you can put any type of file, even a BIAB tune..

Actually, BIAB 2012 has some built in access to cloud sharing....

Well I listened to 96 bars, and now listening again. And while there is a little variation (i do occasionally hear a louder bar) in volume, honestly it is not very noticable. The chords are very simple with a lot of repetition. I soloed the track and the sound level it was generally, well level.. Let me read again what we are supposed to be looking for.

With the entire mix the bass does get a little lost, unless you turn him up and then it sounds ok. I would suspect in a final mix I would look for a way to level it via normalization of the track. But overall no big problem heard.

Thanks.. Maybe it's our soundcards... But when it hits the quick G the bass is actually non existent, & the next time it hits the G it is there. but when I burn it to a CD & sent it to a friend he says the bass is very weak & some notes he can't hear but faintly.. I am in Texas now & am using my computer here with Windows 7, & when I play the same Style on my computer in Canada, with Windows XP, I get exactly the same sound..
Is it a possibility that it is a sound card.. Gonna run over to my neighbors next door, & he just got a new computer & he bougt BIAB 2013 & I will play it on his computer.. will report back..

Well I went & listened on my neighbors new computer, & it sounds exactly the same as on mine.. When it hits the G chord on most the bass is non existent, on the other chords it is there but at times very faint on some notes.
I could understand if it was just my computer, but what I do with the track now is render to individual wave files mono, & import these wave files into my Daw recorder, where I have complete control of each instrument & it's volume, & I get the same results there too.. hmmm, sure baffling, but PG support said they will fix it in a patch in the near future..

Ya, I hear the problem over the G. Here is a render in my DAW and you can see how the waveform petters out at those times almost to zero. Bass player may be reaching for a smoke on that chord.

haha, that's funny..but could be true & it rang a bell with me.. Years ago during my smoking days, that's exactly how it turned out at times. when I played bass, I'd reach for a cigarette or drink with my right hand & instead of plucking the string, I'd hit it hard with my left fingers, & I must admit at times that's exactly like the bass sounded.

Hi Johnny,

Thank you for sending the file over. I'm listening to it right now as I'm typing. I'm hearing the bass note that is sometimes missing under the "G" chord, however, I hear that as a pedal point where the bass note D is sustained under the G chord so those bars become "D G/D | D".

Another thing that stands out to me is that the banjo picking significantly over-shadows the bass (according to my ears, at least). When I set the bass to play "solo", the volume is pretty much consistent throughout. In the mix, though, the low notes are harder to hear. This is normal because the ear is not as sensitive to the lower frequencies as it is to the higher ones.

Out of curiosity, could you please try the following and see if the problem persists.

1. Change the key to C, regenerate and play.

2. Volumes for every instrument are set at 90. Click on the Bass track and set its volume to 127. Regenerate and play.

3. Add the PG Music Dymanics plugin to the Bass track to 'smooth out' the volume. To do this ...

(a) Click on the VSTi button on the shortcut menu bar. (If you cannot see this button, click on the >> immediately to right of the yellow cross in the below image. This will show any buttons not on display.)

(b) First, left-click on "Bass" on the window that pops up. Second, left-click on the top drop-down box in the column labeled "Plugin". Third, scroll down and select "PG Dynamics"

(c) Adjust the "PG Dynamics" settings to those shown below. First, deactivate "Expander/Gate"; second, double-check that "Compressor" is active; third, deactivate "Auto Gain"; fourth, click on the black box under the 'Output Gain' knob, delete the number that's there (probably 6) and enter 12.

(d) Left click on the title bar at the top of the plugin box (#1), hold the mouse button down, and drag the dialogue box down the screen so that the "Generate Play" button (#2) becomes visible.

(e) Leaving the DX plugin box open, generate the song and start it playing. As the song plays, you'll see audio activity on the VU meters. If the bass is still quiet (i.e. the VU meters don't register much volume), try changing the "12", in the 'Output Volume' box, to a higher value (the max. is 24).

Do any of the above help?

Regards,
Noel

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
