Hi noel, thanks for your help. Yes it brought the volumes up, but as it brought the quieter notes up, it also made the louder notes louder.. Seems to work better in the Key of C, but when I change the song back to Key of D, the G chord is missed at times..

Hi Johnny,

To get the louder and quieter notes more balanced, try changing the "Threshold" setting from "-12" to increasingly larger negative values (say: -15, -18, -20, etc.). That will help compress the louder notes. If that doesn't help as much as you'd like, then try changing the "Ratio" to increasingly higher values (say: 6, 7, 8, etc.). That will also act to bring the louder notes down in overall volume.

Regards,
Noel

I played with it a bit more. When the song is in C, I can hear the F chord pretty much all the way through the song. I changed it back to Key of D, & when it then hits the G chord, sometimes it goes mute & it shows on the meters.. When I change it to the key of A, it's not perfect, but I can hear the D chord but when I go back to the Key of D, it starts missing the G chord again.. maybe little Gremlins????

Hi Johnny,

I'd let Support know about this. To do this ...

1. Generate a version of your song in the key of D and freeze the "Bass" track.

2. Have a listen to the song and make a note of the bars that do not have the G bass note.

3. Attach the SGU file with the frozen bass track to an email and send the email to support@pgmusic.com

4. In the email, let the Support team know which bars they should listen to.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. It might also pay to include the URL of this thread in your email so that the PG Music team can read the discussion.

Hi Johnny,

There are some pretty decent MIDI bass sounds available now with the latest developments in BIAB 2013. All you need to do is to find a MIDI style that has a bass pattern you like and then use that in place of the Realtrack.

For your bluegrass song, “Silver Bells”, I've had a listen through some of the bluegrass (MIDI) styles, and I like the bass pattern in BGras101.sty so I'll use that.

This is how you can modify your existing accompaniment …

1. First save the song as a new file (say, “<insert song's name> – MIDI bass.SGU”. That way you can always go back to your original file.)

2. Right-click on “Bass” (#1) and then choose “Select custom midi style for this track” (#2).

3. When the 'MIDI Track Picker' window pops up, check that “Bass” is selected (#1) and click on the button labelled “Choose style with this instrument” (#2: over on the far right of the pop-up window).

4. Select “Country (All)” and scroll down until you find 'Bgras101' style. Select it and exit (the style will be below the styles that begin with = ).

5. The 'MIDI track picker' window should now show …

6. Click OK to close the window. The “Bass” track will now be yellow, indicating that it is a MIDI track.

7. Right-click on the “Bass” track and select “HiQ MIDI Synth”

8. Select one of the Acoustic Bass options. I like the one I've highlighted. Click OK to exit.

9. Since the MIDI bass is a little quieter than the Realtracks, select the “Bass” track and adjust the volume to (say) 117.

10. Save the song, generate it and see what you think.

In my opinion, it's really worth having a listen to.

All the best,
Noel

Noel, why not upload what you have done so we can simply download the mgu file.

Hi Dan,

The reason I didn't do that is because the song is not my work to post. It's Johnny's effort. I was just helping him out with ideas.

Your thought is a great one, though. Below is a link to 21 bars of a public domain song that's all my effort. There are two SGU files in the zipped archive: one using a Realtrack bass and the other using a MIDI HiQ bass. (Since these files do not use drums, the 2-bar count-in might be silent.)

... link to "She'll Be 'Coming Round The Mountain" (right-click and 'Save')

(Note: these files were prepared using features found in BIAB 2013 and may not play effectively on earlier versions of the program.)

Noel

If Noel wants to use mine, he's welcome to. It's just a track I made up for the tune..

Noel, that really sounds good! Thanks for taking the time to work this out and demo the features to their advantage. With this flexibility there is no need to fret about why a RT goes a little quite over a G chord, although, being "real" I do believe the player just missed the note, but no problem when you can do this with the tracks.
