Reformatted Toshiba laptop, windows 7, factory restored from HD.

No other software loaded.

Band in a Box 2013 installed from Everything Pak hard drive.

Full install.

RealDrums work.

RealInstruments show bass lines etc. but no sounds.

RealInstruments directory there in bb folder, I see no discrepancies between it and the folder on the supplied biab hard drive.

Path to both is right.

Just no volumes at all other than drums.

What gives? Clues?

Can't be my output from laptop as Drums are loud and clear.

Volumes are set right.

Whole thing is odd.

- Global RT vol adjust
- Factory reset
- Try a RT demo song
- You are certain they are RealDrums and not Midi
- How about rendering a wav. Do you hear RT there?

If all of the standard bb stuff already mentioned fails, try setting it to do the Windows' Critical Updates. This may take some time, depending, may have to let it do that overnight and then revisit due to forced reboots that some of the updates incur.

Have seen this happen to audio with mostly Vista OS -- but there has been one case of weird audio results on a Win7 machine -- and it turns out that all machines have had recent rollbacks or factory restores, with various complaints from Skype phone Mic not having anywhere near enough volume despite soundcard settings saying otherwise, to playback of multiple streams only playing back the first stream loaded (which may just be the realdrums now that I think of it...)

Is this an older laptop? What's the Geekbench score? Try going into Preferences, RealTracks and adjusting checkboxes for a slow computer?

It did that, and for some reason I had it set so that there was an expectation that the boot would be on the external drive, and it took me a while to unplug the wee new hard drive and then the Critical stuff went through.

I do know that installing everything from the hard drive skipped the rebuilding of styles, which is some sort of bug, and on full screen it was asking me something during the first use of the program, (now that I think of it it wanted to rebuild styles!) but that was behind the main screen, so when I went CTL ALT DEL to stop band in a box it said it was waiting for me..and yes it was there, behind the screen. So I got to where I needed to go in that respect.

Truth be told, I was playing along sort of enjoying only having the drummer and I.

Back to that later, I'm messing printing sort of late seasonal cards on my iMac upstairs and hating to walk downstairs.

Today better be better. Unprepared me had the hypo moment from heF yesterday, in the bush. Forgot to eat. All day. The stupider I get, the further it goes. My wife knows my hangouts and showed up 40 minutes later bearing fruit, juice, and the stick your finger. I hope if my mind goes we go somewhere fun. Good thing I had my cell. And managed to build a fire.

Well it runs fine from the hard drive itself. So something in the installation messed up.

I think what happened is that the install of Windows was done from the backup or permanent image on the hard drive, but I started the install of Band in a Box and the update from the on-line fetching of 'improvements' and patches and other stuff started and demanded a reboot before the RealTracks got properly installed.

So it works ok from the Drive, and it looks like a good install, but something interupptus sqashed my actual install. At the end of it all, I need to reinstall RealTracks, or the whole thing.

It was interesting just having a drums track and myself though. I might do that more often, you have to play more and fill in things that you could lay back on.

I promise to try and not use on to end a sentence sometime soon, as my friends say, "John is entertaining, you never know where he's going to take the conversation". I've messed with going on and off different substances they prescribe me, and even with nothing for 'pills and meds' my mind is in some other gear. Chemo, glad it worked. Not sure about he benefits otherwise!" . Eventually back on pain meds, I can't seem to live without something along that line.

If you want linear thinking you might want to cross me off your list! Lateral is full on all the time.

Nice 3 inches of snow, with the cardinals playing around the feeder. I need to reorganize my office a bit, or maybe raise the chair on a platform so I'm not half standing to see.

Have a good one. (Pot Hole Filler beer is made in BC near PG music.) Thick black beer, hints of chocolate, and as I said to the wife after the first taste, overtones of asphalt. Can't be all bad! Howe Sound beer, who knew! Goes with Funk Bass Jazz quite well. Something light and refreshing though for Diana Krall, who can Krall into.....

John, I have had problems installing new software when MS updates are pending. I find the installation hangs and I check and sure enough Windows wants to shut down to apply updates.

I never got this to work. Then the 'season' hit me and I put it on the back burner.

I copied all Realtracks to the right place. Still only drums and midi worked. The RealDrums were fine.

So, I started to re-install the whole she-bang. But the laptop had a setting to shut down after 15 mins. and I didn't notice, this morning it had stalled at 10% done.

So I edited the required files and it's installing the Everything Pak over the existing stuff.

And I did the big return to Factory Settings, still no RT's.

If this won't work, it's erase all C:\bb stuff and start from 'scratch' so to speak.

And I found that there are windows that pop up 'behind' everything, waiting for input. I thought that had been resolved in the install process.

This is by no means a new laptop, but there is, at the present time, only a factory re-install of windows 7. And the 4 reboots it seemed to take to get Windows up to date.

BTW, where is the place to go and get a score on the system performance? I'm curious.

John, Google and download Geekbench. However, it can only tell you whether the RealTracks' fast options might work, not whether or not you will get sound at all.

The sound is now fine after a total re-install over the C:\bb directory and others, I did let it go through the new midi software install, but I have not used midi at all for 2 or 3 years.

As this is my 'practice' platform for now, I'm not into producing a music CD or video, I'd like to do the video but I can't find the required hot women to go into an old warehouse with spider webs and the like. My wife is hot again, but just in flashes.

For my first working life, forestry, the bunkhouses were always hot. One year in Camp 95 on the Missinabi River, my room was beside the 'dry'. That was a big long room where you hung your work clothes, and walked through to the showers. That room was about 90 to 100 degrees F, and the sweaty clothes mixed with spruce and balsam gum provided a great odour. We had no windows, and slept 3 guys to a room, usually with the doors open. I hated the heat.

Now I can't get enough heat. I'm cold all the time. Cooked thyroid gland. So I have 3 layers of blankets and my wife has none. Used to be the other way around.

I think my brain just did another left turn. Wow.

Not to despair, I'm groovin' on the piano with the laptop on top, and my old Cube keyboard amp that has made one arm longer than the other carrying it around is cranking out the bass and drums, usually with Oliver Gannon on guitar, and doing the 'American' songbook. And some latin stuff too, just so I can pull out the baritone and knock off a few tunes to keep the chops for Brass Band, which starts again soon.

As the executioner said, "I'm getting the hang of it."

Keep on flatting your 5ths and as Peter says, "Have fun".
