Hello! I am new to BIAB (actually new to all music software). I am have been playing around with changing the real track on a specific channel, but it only plays on the first bar. For example, I load in a realtrack style and then try to change the realtrack for just one channel. That one channel will only play on the first bar and then quit!
Thanks for any help!

Hi Gravel, and welcome to the forum fun!

Is there perhaps a red outline around the 2nd bar number? If so, that could be a Bar Setting that might be Muting the track at that bar. Rightclick and select the Bar Settings window to see what's going on there.

You use the term, "Changing style on a specific channel" and I'm guessing that you mean "Changing Realtrack on a Track". Hopefully you are not referring to the Channels Window found in Prefs.

Thanks for answering! I am sure my terminology is wrong. Let me try describing it again. I typed in some chords and picked a realtrack style. I press play and everything works great. Then I right click "guitar" at the top of the screen and select "assign realtracks". Then I select a sax part instead of a guitar part. I close the dialog and press play. The sax plays for the fist bar then stops. The rest of the song (parts?) play fine!
I can try switching back to the original guitar part and and press play and the guitar plays as advertised.
I thought this was part of the power of BIAB, but am I just asking it to do something it is incapable of doing?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Gravel,

Welcome to the forums.

Could you please work through the below process as it will help narrow down the problem. (If the BIAB package you purchased does not have the style that I use as an example, please choose any style. It is the process that is important, not the style itself.)

Below is how I go about (re)assigning Realtracks to one or more of the individual BIAB tracks of Bass, Piano, Guitar, Strings. For this example, I'll use the Style _BALADAP.STY.

1. Left-click on "Style" to open the Style Selection Window.

2. Under the "Category" column, select "Country (All)" (#1); select "_BALADAP" (#2); select "Load Song Demo" (#3). Click "OK" at the bottom of the style picker window. This will load the style into BIAB and also load in PG Music's demo for that style.

3. After clicking "OK" in the style picker window, the Chord Window will appear with a chord progression present. Set the number of Choruses to "1" by left-clicking on the "3" circled in red below. (If this is left at "3", the song will play through 3 times. If that's fine, leave it as is.)

4. To change the instrument on the Strings track: right-click on "Strings" (#1); select "Assign Realtracks ..." (#2). The Realtrack Picker Window will now open.

5. I'll change the electric guitar that's presently on the Strings track to a mandolin Realtrack. For this reason, I'm selecting #1601: Mandolin, Rhythm Pop 16 Melodic Ev065.

6. The mandolin track now needs to be generated for BIAB to know what to play. There are a couple of ways to do this. The easiest is to click on the "Generate" button at the bottom of the Realtrack picker window (#1). I could also click on the "Close" button (#2). If I click "Close", though, I still need to generate the track.

6. If "Close" was clicked in point 5 above, then it's necessary either use the "GenPlay" button to (re)generate all the tracks in the song ...

... or to right-click on Strings tracks and choose to generate just that single track.

7. It will take a few seconds for the generation of the Realtrack to complete. Once it's done, the song should play with the newly selected Realtrack. (Note: Realtrack generation can be monitored by watching the "track/percentage" indicators I've highlighted in the image below.)

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thanks Noel!

That is the process I am using. I changed the real track several times using your example and did not have the problem.

However, when applying the same process to the song I created myself, I still have the original problem. Some real tracks will play and some will only play on the first bar.

I am thinking that I must have done something wrong in setting the song up. I am going to try creating my song from scratch again and see if I have the same problem. If the problem goes away, I will compare all the settings between the two to see if I can spot the reason for the problem. I will post my results!

Thanks again for answering!

I recreated the song from scratch and the problem went away. I can not find a difference between the two, but obviously there is some setting somewhere I messed up!

So far I love BIAB and think it will really meet my needs. But, being new to music software (not computers) it is a bit overwhelming!

Sometimes, in the process of editing, rebuilding, etc. a songfile can become corrupted.

Might be because you had a crash or freezeup of the program while working on that file, might just be those things that go bump in the computer.

You discovered the right way to both check it out (by loading a pgmusic demosong or some other known working file), and that led to hitting New and starting over.

Good Troubleshooting, Good Solve.

Have Fun,
