Hello

So I installed BIAB 2013 on my laptop but after working with it for a while I'm thinking I should change to my desktop so all my musical equipment will be in one place. Can I do this and is it easy?

Thanks

yes, you can. And of course it is easy if you know what you are doing.

Hi jazzmandan

So cool. Do I uninstall it from my laptop first? And do I have to prove that somehow?

PG has always "allowed" us to place BIAB on both our laptops and Desktops.

You don't have to prove anything. PGMusic is a great company of great folks who trust their customers.

The license says, "one machine" -- see, you are covered if you choose to switch machines. Plus, they don't seem to care if a bona fide user installs to one laptop and one desktop for personal use. But I don't do that, read on as to why:

Use of the USB hard drive is a great way to be able to move bb from machine to machine, BTW. I've been doing that for years now, and all my bb files are right there on the laptops or the desktop. (It is important to run the Install file once, selecting only the Fonts, Plugins and DXi stuff to install on the c: drive of any machine that does not have them already. Then after that, you can just switch the USB bb drive to any of the machines and run bb as normal by doubleclicking the .exe icon on the USB drive.

Have Fun,

Thanks Mac

Missed your reply.

Well for now I'm going to keep it on the laptop and desktop. I'm disabled and sometimes it's really hard to make it just to the next room but I have my 2480, SPD-30 and Motif 8 all in the music room with a real nice desktop.

Yes and yes, according to the license as long as you 'change' to the desktop and don't use both.

There are some operational concerns here of course. For those of us like Steve and myself who wish to use it out at gigs on a laptop and then work with the desktop at home, it sounds like the USB drive is the only option (?) but then I wonder if there could be
speed issues with the USB drive for those of us with older laptops and USB 2.0 conbnection etc.?

Reading the thread makes me think there are two different answers about whether BIAB will force you to only use it on one machine.

Thanks for your patience guys. I haven;t bought it yet and want to make sure it will do what I need.

It runs from the external drive just fine.
However it does install a small bit of code on C: drive also (for fonts etc)
FWIW I've never heard of PGMusic complaining if someone installs it on a couple machines as long as a single instance is used, ie either on your laptop or desktop
(but not leaving copies on your bandmates system at his house etc)

Of course your processor speed will affect how quickly it generates, etc
That's why there is the 'quick generation' option. When envoked BiaB will start palying before the generating is finished so you don't have to wait.

How old of a laptop we talking about?
I have a 5 year old duocore that seems to run it pretty well.

Yes.

I've also understood "one machine" to mean one at a time.

And since I run off the hard drive it would be pretty hard to do otherwise.

Oh, I guess I could network my machines at home and map to the BiaB USB drive.

Ah, but I can only physically be at one place at one time.

I think PGM should change the license to read "one person."
