it would be interesting to know what straw broke the camel's back! I have been following most posts here for the past few months and didn't notice any behavior I would consider even remotely bad enough to leave the forum over. I have been on many forums and they all have a unique personality yet share some common annoyances. but that is just how it is when you converse with people!
most people I have "met" here have been really nice and helpful. and even when we have disagreed it usually seems respectful. I find you typically get what you give in a forum like this one. if you are helpful and kind almost everyone responds the same way. if you are argumentative and confrontational, well, expect that in return!
I hope Eddie does whatever is best for him whether it be stay or go.

Hey JoeV, I really did not understand the reaction you got about your posts this past week. I found each of your posts to be interesting and thoughtful. and mostly I felt you got some decent responses. don't understand why anyone would choose to say something negative about good posts!

Happy to new year to all those that are still plugging away. Some folks are just wound too tight to coexist in forums for too long. It is just the way it is. Those of us that know how to survive, know when to back off and to not take too seriously that which tends to annoy us.
This happens all the time on other forums I belong to also -- and those forums have the same high "good person" ratio that this one does.

Too bad that the FDA regulated the active ingredients out of 7-Up. There was a time.....

Yeah, I knew about Co-Cola (which still buys residual coca pulp for flavoring, unfortunately without the active ingredient), but please say more about 7-Up.

7-up once contained lithium which is used to treat manic depression. The UP in 7-Up was because it raised your spirits.

Didn't know that - interesting.
A couple years ago we were in Peru on a mission trip and all of the grocery stores sold coca tea. We were strictly warned not to partake nor try to bring any back to the good ol USA if we didn't want to spend quality time in a very small room with no beds.

Hey Eddie, Hope you will reconsider, have learned a lot from your input the last year or two. We always need someone to stir the pot, get people thinking, keeps the blood flowing, usually in a good way. The full moon always gets our opinions up.
While driving through NJ in the late 60's after midnight,I happened to hear a college radio DJ sign off with the phrase "Don't let the Bas****s Wear Ya Down!"
While I knew he was probably referring to "The Establishment", it continued to resonate with me throughout my life whenever I became frustrated with anything stressful going on.
Also, I always try to remember and live by the words of singer song writer John Prine when he sang:
That's the way that the world goes round. You're up one day, the next you're down It's a half an inch of water and you think you're gonna drown. That's the way that the world goes round.
On one live album he recounted how a fan had come up to him at a club in San Francisco and asked him to sing the song about the happy enchilada. He said he'd never written any song about an enchilada, let alone a happy enchilada.
He asked her how it went and she said "It's a happy enchilada and you think your gonna drown" He said "I'm glad you like the words."
Hang in there and hope to have you back. Carkins

Happy New Year, all!
Here are my thoughts from someone ( I ), who pretty much seems to be ignored, no matter what I post (outside some showcase stuff, 'coz, I really don't know much about anything). I feel like an outsider looking in, to be honest.
Forums are text based. You can't really judge someone's post/posts by what you read. There is no body language, there are no facial impressions, etc.
I'm mostly a reader here. I don't have much to contribute, someone always "beats me to the punch" when it comes to questions I have the answer to. I learn a lot here by just reading and I have applied that knowledge to use BIAB as best as I can for my particular needs.
I am not sure why Eddie would want to quit here. If he's claiming there's been disrespect, fine. That goes back to just reading TEXT without emotions. Eddie has come across very abrasive in his posts at times, probably not meaning to and probably not realizing that. So, in essence,he's just as much at fault as the person who has caused him to post this "I'm done" message.
I forget who said it, but, I agree: thick skin, man!!! And realize that this is not a visual media where you can judge someone's emotions.
That's all I have to say.... now I will dive back into "read only mode".
FWIW...

I have been thinking about this some more...
We are actually a big virtual family and this situation is actually not dissimilar to siblings also getting peeved off with each other...
Sometimes they then "go away" but the bond is still there, Eddie will still be using BIAB and RB...he is mad with (some of) us , not really with PG. How will he track for possible "undocumented features" if he is not watching and monitoring the forum.
I suspect that he will not be able to stay away that long...OR .... Most likely he will be registering under a pseudonym to watch us ... (i know I would)
Families reunite eventually (most of the time ...)
Come back Eddie, me miss you already ...
I'm doing allright for Country Trash ....
I used to care, but things have changed (Bob Dylan)

Rest easy .. Eddie isn't leaving. If I would want to leave my wife, I'd have to make an announcement, if I would want to leave a forum such as this, I just wouldn't post anymore... Simple as that! Cheers!

Well, we do have a few who seem to make the occasional foray into the realm of the personal attack, alter-egos, sock puppets and all -- those kind of things can and do hurt good folks, don't need a fork nor a spatula when the meat is falling off the bone...

but there is a standard for identifying a personal attack, and I haven't seen any on the forum in a while.
Disagreement is NOT a personal attack, though it may sometimes attack the idea in discussion.
Quote:
NOT a personal attack: "I think that's a dumb idea"
Personal Attack: "You are a dumb person for having that idea"
Many of us on the forum are old opinionated goats. We say what we have to say in no uncertain terms, and we don't all agree on everything. (But we know where the others stand)
I think that by the time we've gotten to age 60 we should have a mature perspective on life's injustices, and the strong emotional responses should be reserved for when you find out your kid has leukemia or you dad had a massive coronary. The emotional response for being disagreed with should be wayyyy down the list.
And for many, by age 60, it ain't even on the list at all anymore. I consider disagreement to be normal among people who are all thinking. And I don't want to hang with people who aren't thinking.

The first time I saw that phrase was on an old school tie. It had a nice coat of arms embroidered on it beneath which it said: 'nil carborundum illegitimi'.
