OK, so now I've installed everything, got the Dxi working, sound module and VSTis all up and running. Got the ASIO4ALL installed and running and fixed the delay issues when playing live BUT...................

Now I've actually started recording some stuff in a separate track to an existing midi file. I've set the track as DXi and Rhodes piano. When I play there is almost no delay but when i play back there is a huge delay. I also get a dialogue saying that I have recorded audio but I'm not I've just got a M Audio midi controller hooked up?

Any ideas what I ve done wrong this time?

cheers

Hello Glenn,

For the message "audio also recorded", you can disable that in Options-Preferences-Audio "always record audio too...".

For the delay problem, can you please describe a few things about your setup:

-Options-MIDI Devices - What MIDI input and output drivers?
-Do you have the "Re-route MIDI playback to default DXi synth" box checked or unchecked?
-Options-Preferences-Audio - is MME or ASIO currently selected?
-What are your audio input and output drivers?

when you say there is a huge delay when you play back, do you mean that the audio plays back out of sync with the MIDI?

If you are using M-Audio you would be better served to use the M-Audio native ASIO, and not the ASIO4All, as that is a third party wrapper for WDM drivers.

Hi Andrew

Midi input and output drivers are USB
ASIO selected
input port
(0,1) Conexant HD Audio input 1 + Conexnat Audio input 2
output port
(0,1) Conexant HD Audio input 1 + Conexnat Audio input 2
re route to DXi is checked

I've thought about your last sentence and had another listen and I think it may be out of sync. I just the melody played along with the tracks when I recorded and it was in sync and without delay then. Its a playback thing.

Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Journeyman

I'm about to swap the Maudio device for a new Ederol PCRM50 so will see how that performs before I look to change the ASIO thing.

cheers

Is it only MIDI tracks in your song? Are you sure you aren't recording it as audio too, and hearing the audio play back out of sync?

So, you start with one MIDI track, then record a second MIDI track from your keyboard, and the two tracks are out of sync when you play them back?

[edit]

My original answer did not make sense, so I edited it out, sorry.

There is an audio track on the mix but I've got that turned off and the track I am recording I have set to midi.

I'm only using a controller and no mikes and the track shows up as a midi one.

Have now turned the "always record audio" off but haven't tried it again since then. have just bought a new edirol PCRM50 controller which I'm hoping will plug and play. Can't believe the manual is 124 pages long!

Yeah, that is a rather thin manual.

Hope there's enough info in there.

Hello Glenn,

Can you see if the same problem happens with only MIDI, and eliminate audio all together. For example, if you start a new file, click on track 1, select Edit | Fill Track with (MIDI) drum pattern, click on track two, and record a MIDI track using your controller along with the MIDI drums on track 1. When played back, are the two tracks in sync?

Hi Andrew. not sure so I'll give it a go this evening and see how I get on. Have the PCR controller hooked up now and working fine so I can tick that one off my list!
