All,

When using the auto generate intro function, the first chord includes a "(p4)". It seems that this is a code that tells band in the box to play a specific pattern for the intro. Sometimes I like the pattern, but not the progression. However, when I change the first chord, the "(p4)" disappears and I can't figure out how to enter it manually. This action also changes the pattern of the intro.

So, how can I change the progression of the auto generated intro, without changing the pattern?

Thanks!

Hi Gravel,

I'm not sure but I suspect that the (p4) refers to the fact that BIAB has instructed the software to play a set note on the bass for 4 bars. In classical theory, this is called a "ground bass" or "pedal point".

To access this ...

  • right-click on the first chord in the bar (1)
  • select "Chord Settings" from the pop-up menu (2)
  • check that "Beat 1" is selected (3)
  • select a chord pattern from the drop-down menu (4)
  • enter the note you want the bass to play and for how many bars you want it to be played (5)
  • click on OK

All the best,
Noel

I thought, "pedal bass" immediately, too, because Intros often can benefit from them.

But, my bb always shows those as slash chords in the autogenerated intro, like Fmaj7/C.

I don't recall ever seeing "p4" in the Chord Grid.

I have never used auto-generation of intros. When I tried the above process, though, it gave me the (p4) that was described. Maybe if Gravel checks it out, he can get back to us all and clarify if this is what he heard or not

Hi everyone! Unfortunately my Christmas/New year vacation has drawn to a close and I have had to go back to the grind stone. Actually, with so many friends out of work, I feel very blessed to have a grindstone!

I will check out the above suggestions this weekend and let you know how it comes out.

Thanks!

Regarding P4, this is from the help file:

Quote:

Let's look at the 4 Bar Intro that was generated.

Notice how the chords of the intro are typical chords for an intro, and lead nicely to the first chord of the song (Cmaj7). The first chord is Cmaj7/G(P4). This is read as follows ("C Major seventh, with a G Pedal bass for 4 bars). This will give a pedal bass effect on the intro.

If you hit Alt-F5 to access chord options, you'll see the section at the bottom left that of the box that pops up, you can see your pedal bass options. The P4 comes from the fact that the pedal bass is set to play that note for four bars. This lets you enter the other chords in those 4 bars without having to use slash notation for each chord. If you had selected "for 2 bars", it would have said P2.

I hope that made sense.
