You can easily record MIDI drums to the Melody track using the Drums window.

Be sure to change the Prefs->Channels to MIDI channel 10, which is the Percussion track.

TIP: The part recorded to the Melody track can always be swapped using the command under the Melody -> Edit menu to free up that Melody track if you also wish to record a Melody there.

An alternative to the above could be done using the Audio loop feature, if you have an audio loop of a kick drum that does what you want.
