Basically, can i use BIAB as a "looper" set to play parts of a song (verse, chorus etc) and just switch between parts at will (via a mouse or external controller)? Sort of like having a 3 or 4 track looper with the parts of son prepared in advance where i would just go back and forth between verse , chorus etc whenever I want to.
The closest I can see that will do this is using Ableto Live and Launchpad. This setup will actually do more than what i need. Also a multitrack looper would be overkill for prerecorded loops (but great for on the fly improvising). Again, a little to much for what I need it to do.
Just looking for the easiest route to select parts of songs to play for as long as I want.

Check out the "Conductor" feature in the toolbar, does exactly what you want.

Thanks. I watched the very brief video portion of Power tracks 10 to see how to use the conductor.I just tried the Conductor (with Power Tracks 12).
It does jump around to the different sections like I would like, but when I click on a different section there is definitely a time glitch (pause) when jumping between sections. I am looking for a smooth transition when one part ends and the other begins. Either my computer is too slow or I have something set up wrong? is there more instruction anywhere on how to use it?

Use of the Conductor feature and finding pauses or other glitches can be cause by not enough cpu speed, not enough ram, but may also be simply a matter of the disk access times.
In other words, I've found that having BB on the USB drive is sometimes problematic when using the Conductor with RealTracks and Softsynths that may take up more resources.
So then I must have enough room on my c: drive to install all of BB inclusive of Realtracks and Realdrums, or install another internal hard drive to install them on.
Also, I've found it important to DEFRAG the internal hard drives perhaps a bit more often than usual to keep the Conductor running fine.
Another thing, I have noticed that use of a hardware MIDI synth seems to make my use of the Conductor feature a bit less problematic as well, presumably because using a MIDI synth that does its processing outside the domain of the pc also frees up a bit of needed resources.
That said, I don't have a whole lot of experience in using the Conductor feature, don't use it regularly enough, but have invoked it at parties and jam sessions where I've put the laptop on the pianoboard and jacked it into a sound system and someone comes along with a horn or other instrument and wants to jam on a song. Can keep repeating middle choruses as long as needed, that sort of thing. I don't think of it for use when I'm practicing, but then to my way of thinking all I'd be really practicing at that point would be the act of using the Conductor feature. For woodshedding I greatly prefer simply highlighting a target number of bars and using the Play Loop feature found under the Play menu. It will repeat the highlighted section forever or until I hit stop.

I was actually thinking of using it with prerecorded audio tracks that I made, with no midi soft-synth conversion going on at all.
I haven't really tried it that way yet. I just put a midi file on Power Tracks, tried it out, and got those glitches. I will try it again with "just audio tracks" and see what happens. Hopefully it will be faster since no conversion is necessary.

You've got a habit of revealing something different that you are doing after having asked the question.
Having no Crystal Ball abilities, we can only answer a question based upon the information given and here the assumption when you say, "parts of songs manually for live performance" would naturally lead anyone attempting to help to think that would mean a Band in a Box format song.
Audio tracks, without any BiaB autoaccompaniment?
I wouldn't know, have never tried it that way.
Seems like you have already found your answer though.

I know it sounds confusing but when I saw the video for conductor it was in Power Tracks, not Band in a Box and I usually do mostly audio files in power tracks. Maybe I should have brought the question there to that forum. Anyway ......
