Well John your initial dose of meds are probably wearing off about now so don't be afraid to use those back-ups. I hope you are doing well.
Heal well.

You will be in my prayers, I had a spinal fusion with a left thoractomy, so I know of the pain you speak! God bless and keep us posted on your progress!

Greetings, folks - I just wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the well-wishes I received. My surgery was successful. The doc took some bone from my hip to fashion into a replacement disc, and then replaced my C4/C5 disk in my neck. He goes in through the front (which seems counter-intuitive), but that way they minimize risk of nicking the spinal cord (I'm not sure which notes actually make up the spinal cord...) ![](/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) Since I had the same thing done on C5/C6 and C6/C7 last year, I now will have two scars on my throat from the surgeries. My doc is good about cutting in the natural crease of the neck so as to minimize the scar's appearance. I'm home on a bunch of pain drugs, but for the pain of the surgery itself. I'll be working remotely from home for several weeks before I actually go back into the office (I'm blessed that they let me do that). I have to wear my cervical collar for 6 weeks. I've got a doctor's appointment this afternoon, so hopefully he can tell me when I can have a shower rather than sponge bath. Again, thanks so much for all the well wishes. ![](http://www.sus4chord.com/Transfer%20Files/Cervical%20Collar.jpg)

Hi John - so glad it all went well and you're back, funny as ever ... no idea either what notes make up the spinal "chord". LOL!
Speedy recovery!!!

Welcome back and thank God everything went ok! I’m not quite sure but I think that the spinal chord is a combination of the C2 and C4 chords ![](/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
