Don't confuse commands such as "Open MIDI file" or "Open Audio file" with the straight File-> Open command.
The straightforward Open command, also available in the LH toolbars, is for opening BiaB songfiles. When you have one songfile loaded and hit Open and choose another, the one already loaded is indeed Closed and the new file then opens.
However, some of those other commands can be used to Import a MIDI or Audio file into the already existing song. Won't stay there unless Saved that way.
