I am using BB 2013.
Most of the time I have no latency problems. I am using a MIDI controller (an M-Audio KeyRig 49).
However, once in a while I will stop a piece or speed it up or slow it down or set a loop, and when I start again, there is just a bit of a latency problem. Is there something I can do in such circumstances to kind of reset things? Sometimes I have to close BB and open it again for the problem to go away.

Soundcard type?
Audio driver in use? ASIO or MME
When using certain built in soundcards, along with DXi/VSTi for MIDI softsynth, resources can be critical. For example, things may work fine at first, but the longer the session, the more things start getting strange. That is generally a sign of the computer resources getting filled up. RAM most likely, but there can be other reasons as well, background programs, interrupts, etc.
What OS are you running, what is the cpu, how much physical RAM is in it?
My older (who am I kidding, my "ancient") XP lapttop, king of the hill back when purchased, can exhibit the same kind of problems in sessions. Sometimes I just have to shut down BB and reboot the puter to get things back right. No problem, that's when its time to get up stretch, visit the coffeemaker. Yeah, coffee and woodshedding go together anyway.

Hi Mac
Thanks for responding.
I am using a Dell Laptop Latitude D810. It was upper-end in its time, but that was five years ago. It has 2 gig of memory. You can put in more, but it doesn't see it. I am running Windows 7 Home. Because it does not have the best internal sound card, I have an External Tascam US-144 USB 2.0 AUDIO MIDI device connected to the machine. I am using it in conjunction with DXI/VST for MIDI Softsnth with ASIO settings. That is, for reasons I forget, I have (in the MIDI/AUDIO Drivers Setup Dialog) a check in the Use VST/DXI Synth and a check in Route MIDI Thru to MIDI Driver. When Running BB I do try to close down everything else.
I have noticed, however, that sometimes all I need to do is stop and restart what I was already doing and things will sometimes get back into sync. This is why I thought there might be some sort of reset button or option.
This is not the best machine for music. I have too many USB things going in and out of the system. But, in answer to your question, those are my parameters.

good.
I recommend that you download and use the Defraggler program from the Piriform website, defrag the hard drive, that can often help here.

I did a defrag with the defrag built into Windows 7 recently. Is there something about this defrag that you think is better?

Yes, there's lots about Defraggler that I think is better.
Ability to select only certain files and folders to defrag instead of the whole disk can save time. For example, if the disk is not overly full but you start to get probs when loading Realtracks, you might find joy by just defragging the Realtracks folders.
But that's just one example, Defraggler uses much more advanced algorithms in general.
Defraggler also contains a much more comprehensive report on Disk Health as well.
The Microsoft defrag works, but bear in mind that they are targeting the average computer user, who doesn't need much in the way of fast disk streaming, most programs use such smaller amounts of data that the Burst spec can load the entire file. Our rather large Audio files, in multiples, are another story.

CNet seems to agree with your assessment of Defraggler. See Cnet Defraggler Review I'll give it a try

Woody...yes the Piriform product has a different algorithm for compression. I'm not technically savvy to explain how it differs but can give an example. Using my Win7x64's built in defragger, it said there was 0% fragmented files. Using the Piriform defragger, it said there were 13% fragmented files. Be forwarned that the Piriform defrag routine, while very good, is lengthy, my 1TB drive took over 20 hours.
Win11, Intel i7 7700K 4.2Ghz, 32Gb RAM, 2x1Tb HD, 500Gb NVMe, BIAB/RB 2025, MOTU 828MK3 audio, MOTU Midi Express, Yamaha Montage 7, DX7II, TX802, Motif XS Rack, Roland Fantom XR Rack, Oberheim Matrix 1000, VoiceLive3 Extreme, Kontakt 6, SampleTank 4.3

Those with the newer large drive sizes can alleviate the time frustration by waiting until bedtime to invoke Defraggler on the drive and let it run overnight. There is even a command one can check to have the puter turn off when the defrag is done.
