Yes, ASIO4ALL driver should help a lot. Websearch for the download page, follow the simple directions.

Sounds like you are probably trying to play a software synth in realtime, ASIO is the answer.

You may find that it might work better with the built in sound device drivers, or with your aftermarket sound device, one install allows for selection on either.

I'm surprised that the UM-1s does not have ASIO drivers, you might want to check the manufacturer's support webpage to see if there isn't one to download and install. A "native" ASIO driver generally can be set to even lower latency figures than we enjoy from ASIO4ALL, so its worth a look. But don't think that means that ASIO4ALL can't do the job, I use it all the time when traveling with my laptop and 49 key M-Audio keyboard controller, works fine.
