I'm new to BIAB and I'm trying to figure out how to have BIAB create a certain song pattern using repeat/1st/2nd/coda, etc. Let me start out by saying, I don't have any music theory background. I play the guitar. I can read "a little" music, but mostly "play by ear" and read the chords at the top of the staff.

That being said, I am try to create a pattern for our church psalms. A pslam is generally

Refrain
Refrain - repeated by the congregation
Verse
Refrain
Verse
Refrain

Sometimes the refrain is repeated at the end twice, sometimes it it not. The number and length of the verses vary. Since I had a hard time figuring it out, I just wrote everything in linear format. It made for a rather long lead sheet, but it was better than nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Refrain
Refrain

You could write the Refrain out twice and set it to be an Intro in BIAB by clicking on the bar afterwards as Start of Chorus.

Verse
Refrain
Verse
Refrain

Write out the Verse/Refrain once and then click on the center "number of choruses" button and set it to 2.

Then write the last Refrain as a TAG ending.

If they don't sing the last refrain, be ready to hit Stop.

Or don't write it as a TAG and use the Conductor feature to jump again to the last set of bars where the Refrain starts.

Thanks. I was mainly looking for an alternative for the printed version for our choir. I suppose I could print only certain sections at a time. We don't use a lot of "pre-recorded" music at our church. Almost all of it is performed by either a piano and/or guitar along with the singing. I'll play around with some of the repeat/1st/coda options and see how it works out. I just got BIAB a few days ago and was looking for a quick fix to my question.

TIP:

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of using some "old fashioned" methods in order to get charts for the band or the choir out of BIAB printouts.

I use scissors, tape and the Copy Machine. Whiteout sometimes and occasionally pick up the pencil or pen to annotate or put in things that BIAB wouldn't or couldn't.

Scotch transparent tape the cut pieces in order onto a new sheet for the "master" and then make the Xerox copies, they can look pretty good.

To some this sounds like terribly hard work, but I have the "Git-R-Done" affliction... -- AND for short things like this song, it is actually faster than trying to transfer BIAB to my Music Writing Program (Sibelius) for the cleanup and redo.

Oh, the old "cut & paste" method.
