in a ending of a song on the very last Chord I'm trying to get all the Instruments including the Bass to end on the down beat. and hold for a duration of a whole note. I can make the edits in the notation window, but biab won't save them. not even when I save them on a Standard Midi File like the manuel suggests. What is the best way to do this? f6f6
BTW I don't see why this would make a difference but I am using a Mac.

I don't use RB in principle, since I rather make the finishing touch in Cubase/Protools, but I think in RB (if you got that) could remember all those things when you save them and also should give you many more options in modifying MIDI and cutting/pasting realtracks.
I'll be back...

I think AB is on the mark. convert the song to midi, open in RB or PT and edit each midi track. Any RTracks may present a bit more of an editing problem, but you should be able to accomplish it this way.

The BIAB TechFAQs for Macintosh ver 12 say the following: Quote:
Technical Support FAQ: Band-in-a-Box 12 for Macintosh
8. How can I make my song endings more natural? Can I hold the last chord in the song and have it fade out?
If you want to get a more natural ending on a song, such as a held or sustained chord, here is what to do:
Go to the bar that you want held (the last bar in your composition).
Press ALT-F5 (Edit | Chord Settings) and hold all instruments.
Decide how many bars you want the chord held/sustained for. Type in any chord other than the last held chord (it doesn't matter what chord you use, because it will be rested).
Press ALT-F5 again, and rest all instruments at this bar.
Mark this bar as the last bar in the song
NOTE - This does not work if you are using an automatic 2 bar ending. You can enable/disable the automatic 2 bar ending in the Song Settings dialog (Song | Additional Song Settings)

Hello f6f6, Maybe it is something specific about the song or style. If you would like, send the file to support@pgmusic.com. Make sure to include your exact version and operating system, and reference this forum post.

Sounds to me like it's Band-in-a-Box regenerating the song when you press play. This is what Band-in-a-Box does when you press the "Play" button. I would suggest pressing the 're-play' button instead of the play button. But once you close the program and save the song it will regenerate the ending next time you open the song again.
Try editing the notes on the melody track only. If you edit the notes on the instrument tracks it will regenerate when you press play.

This is a related question on endings/fadeouts...
I created a track and used the "Olinda - jazz samba" style. I changed the drums to "RealDrums: Samba^2-Brushes" So far, so good. I get to the end of the song, and I've got a long fadeout over a 4-bar chord-pattern. In the "Song Settings (Alt+N) I have the "Fadeout ending # of bars" set to: "16". Everything starts fading out very nicely--except every two bars there is a single "whack" on beat-3 by the snare drum, and it's not fading out like everything else in the track. It's really annoying to have the entire track fading except this "out-of-left-field" drum accent on '3'... How do you make ALL of the sound fade out? (It sounds like more of a 'bug' than a 'feature'...)
(I'm on BB2009/ build 282)

LadyJazzer:
- try setting the fadeout to (say) 4 bars and see if you get the same thing - open a brand new blank song, use the same style, put in a few chords, fadeout - still have the "whack"? - try the original song with a different "RealDrums" and see what you get
If you still get the "whack" with all of the above, then there could be something amiss in your song. Sometimes I've had to copy the chords to a new blank song and save with a new name.
Good luck! LLOYD S

"I can make the edits in the notation window, but biab won't save them. not even when I save them on a Standard Midi File like the manuel suggests."
- As long as you do not hit Play first, any edits should be included in the saved MIDI file. If not, you should make sure that you have the latest build version (click on Band-in-a-Box™ | About Band-in-a-Box...)
