Here's a demo of a web program that we're making. It's purpose to provide an interactive demo of Band-in-a-Box. Running this in any browser, on Windows, Mac (not iPhone/iPad) 1. It shows a Band-in-a-Box type screen 2. You can type in any chords, and pick a style (for this demo, we limit it to a few styles, but it could be any styles (or instead of typing in chords, you can press the DEMO button, and it will load in demo chords, which you can change if you want. 3. You then press PLAY, wait about 20-30 seconds, and then you get a player shown where you can play the song, or downoad a mp4 of the song. http://www.pgmusic.com/bbweb.htmHere's a video showing how it works. http://screencast.com/t/RwXruiBfWe plan on adding these to the various RealTracks style sets, so you can "take them for a spin" (ie hear them playing the chords and tempo that you input) before buying.

Interesting idea.
After entering a song on my iPhone 5, I got an error that Flash was required.

Suggestion for iPhone implementation (assuming we can get around the Flash limitation): on the iPhone, entering a # character requires a different screen from numbers. Could it accept 3 for # like BIAB does?

Hi Mac, Matt
Right, I spoke to soon about it working on iPhone/iPad, so it doesn't work for those (yet!) and I ** have edited my post above ** to reflect that. So it's Windows and Mac for now (any browser) - potentially Linux too, though haven't tried that. Also, please note that this is a single server, so if it isn't working, it's likely hung or something. In that case, let us know. If it proves popular, we'l make it more robust.

No Mac, you read a corrected post from Peter. I was surprised when he said it would work on an iPhone and iPad, so I tried it and reported.

Peter,
This is a GREAT addition IMO. When I was trying to decide if BIAB was "all it's cracked up to be" - meaning is it really worth my $$$$$, this would have been very convincing. (and btw, for anyone is in that situation.... it IS worth it!!!! Buy it! And don't look back...)
The download did not work for me - I got a file, but it's size was 0k - meaning nothing. But, I don't undestand why you would have a download function to this. And, if you are going to... that imput screen ought to limited - 32 measures ought to pleanty for someone "to get the idea".
My opinion, of course. I want PGMusic to be VERY, VERY successful and to be around for at least the next 30 years - after that, I won't care <grin>.

Interesting. Just tried it, and the download works for me. What OS and browser are you using (I'm using Mac and Chrome)

Everything goes fine in Linux with the GNOME Media player.I had to DL the file. I think I just need to configure Linux to use the right media player as the default player.

Hi John, Thanks for testing it out with Linux. Hopefully there is a solution so that LInux can play a mp4 file. (that's the format that iTunes uses, so since 95% of online music sales are iTunes (and 33% of all music sales) , that issue must come up often). We love Linux, so we'll look into it.

I tried it again. This time, I got a file - from the "Download" link beside "File Generated". But the "black button" that says Download does nothing.
Still think it's cool. Still think it should be limited somehow (I could have use this to create some NICE backing tracks - without having to purchase the program) - just saying... granted it would be limited by the style available, but to make it effective, there should be (and I imagne there will be) many more styles... the bluegrass styles are TOO cool to leave out... and the Texas Blues styles... etc, etc...

Yes, to add more styles, we would just edit a text file, or open it up to typing in any style name. I agree we should limit it in some way, of course being server side (and free for the user), we can do that after-the-fact to fine tune things.

Peter I edited my first post. I can DL the file and then open it with the GNOME media player in Linux. In Linux it thinks that an MP4 is a Movie so opens the movie player as default. I think if I figure out how to have Linux/Firefox open the GNOME Media palyer as the default for MP4 I'd be cool.

Hi John, mp4 and m4a are the same file format, so renaming it as m4a might do the trick.
We chose mp4 as the name because it "sounded better" than m4a (mp4 seems like the obvious succesor to mp4, and I would want mp5 when it comes out). But it looks like Apple renamed mp4 as m4a to distinguish that as an audio file format. I've seen video programs take ownership of mp4 files on Windows too, so it looks like we could be wrong in using mp4. We can always change it maybe an option "Download my files as mp4 or m4a?)

Tried it on my Android tablet using Chrome. When i tried to use the "play" button, the player generated an error that said "Flash 9 required". However, using the "Download" button, everything worked fine. The resultant file played and sounded just fine.

Thanks Robb, Hopefully we can eliminate that Flash requirement on the mobile devices.
