OK a light bulb just went on in my brain. Bobby per chance in the old days were you just recording the AUDIO from the JV 1010 into the computer into Cakewalk? That would explain a lot. If that's the case you wouldn't have the mentioned cable as you never hooked MIDI up to your computer.
