I'm brand new to BIAB and the interface and options are a little overwhelming at first. Is there a way to tell BIAB to play my chords with alternate bass picking? (i.e.) On a G chord the four beats in a measure should be pick 6th, strum, pick 4th, strum.

Sounds like you are not really referring to the Bass instrument track here, as in Electric or Acoustic BASS, you are talking about the use of standard Guitar picking and which strings are used to create a bass pattern between strums.

We don't really have control over that in Band in a Box in a custom fashion. BUT, you may find a Style in which the guitar is picked in that fashion at times, or something near to it. Making a note of which actual Realtrack is used to invoke that desired picking style, you can then try invoking it on an empty track to play along with any of the other autoaccompaniment styles, or by itself. This would require auditioning styles inside the Stylepicker, with an ear towards the particular pattern, feel and tempo you are looking for.

Band in a Box accompaniments aren't designed to be able to nail exact notations, for the most part, although certain styles and instrument tracks will follow conventions commonly used that might be useful in more than one particular song situation. Those requiring custom patterns, hooks, etc. should resort to use of MIDI note entry methods to obtain an exact playing situation. That said, it may not be as necessary to have an exact replication in order to create a stunning sounding accompaniment for a particular song, for the reason that the RealTracks players used are pros at what they do and we can often find an accompaniment that will indeed work with a particular song very well indeed, but without nailing the exact picking or playing pattern that is in that song.
