I have heard a lot of talk about Firefox. Is this a browser? I have used I.E. for 20 years, and never knew the difference that I maybe wasn't getting the most out of the program. Are there great advantages of one over the other? I do nothing fancy, go to a web site, look around, print something, maybe.

Well I use both. For certain things Firefox for sure is better and saver. Also I got a bit sick and tired of getting to install all the time these active x plugins and IE somehow became buggy with flash and stuff like that. My IE I only use for a few occasions, mostly I use firefox now.

I use both. I have to in order to check display of websites I work on..
They are different. Often if IE reports a problem with flash or javascript it is because there IS an error... Firefox is more forgiving.
However they DO display certain things differently. I like Firefox, and it is worth checking out, for sure. You may have to install certain 'add ons' to Firefox to get the same performance you expect from IE, especially things like displaying 'alt' tags and such. Check it out, you may end up preferring it! I like how easy it is to delete cookies and stuff in Firefox. Very efficient.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Alright, sounds like it is worth checking out. I will see who makes it and where to get it. I am all for performance.

Here is a really cool Firefox thing I discovered completely accidentally. I closed a session on my girlfriend's PC--closed out several tabs at once . . .
Started up my PC at home, opened Firefox . . . and there was the old session!
There are LOTS of other good reasons to use it--more secure, but just FRIENDLIER, IMO.

I much prefer Firefox, but I still need to use Internet Explorer to access Microsoft's update site, and a few others. I even prefer Opera, another free browser alternative, to Internet Explorer. Bob is also correct, web developers need to use all these and more (like Apple's Safari browser) to check their sites.
By the way, Luvs, if you really have used Internet Explorer for 20 years, then you much predate the web as we know it. Internet Explorer was introduced in Windows 95, and became the most popular browser by 1999. Microsoft was rather late getting into the web game. Firefox is one descendant of the old Netscape/Mozilla line, much more popular in the early days of the web.

One thing I really like about Firefox was the FoxMarks plugin (now called XMarks, since they're branching out to other browsers). Since I use multiple PC's, it lets me synchronize my bookmarks between all the PC's. If I set up a new system (or just rebuild the old system), after I install FireFox, I just connect to the Foxmarks server, synchronize my bookmarks, and there everything is.

Please, say more. I'm about to have three or four machines on which I'll be working regularly. Life would have been so much easier all along if I'd known about that . . . I just backed up my IE bookmarks--there were about 1,500 of the highly-organized wee buggers. Okay, who else knows that you can import bookmarks from IE into Firefox? THAT one I got right.  R.

First off. www.mozilla.com and you can download Firefox. When installing Firefox, it will ask if you wish to import your I.E. bookmarks. Click Yes and it will automatically. If you've already installed Firefox but have not imported your I.E. bookmarks, open Firefox, click on Bookmarks/Organize Your Bookmarks and then the Library window will open. Click on Import and Backup, then Import HTML, and there will be a button for I.E., click that and then click OK. By the way, Firefox automatically updates on a regular basis, and yes, I like the Restore Session feature. You can also Save and Quit so you come back to where you left off from. And yes, I use both, but primarily Firefox. If you need to do Windows updates or almost anything from Microsoft, and Firefox is your default browser, it won't work, you'll need to use I.E. Gary
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

Yes Firefox & Thunderbird for email.
John I just copy the profiles from machine to machine. I also save my profile on a weekly basis to a disc that way if things go South I haven't lost all of my mail, addresses, bookmarks etc.

Hi all;
Wow, well it sounds unanimous. This many users can't be wrong.
Matt; I think I pulled that 20 years out of my head. I know I used something with Windows 3.11 for workgroups. Tried Netscape Navigator, once, and did not like it at all. It is hard to remember when I had a 1200 baud modem, and 20 mb hard drive just what the set up was. LOL. But it was slow.
Thanks for all the tips and links. I will check them all out tonite after work.
I also found an old song created with BB in the 90's. I will have to take it off of cassette, tweek it in RB, and post it later this week. We have come a long way.

Another Firefox fan here.
It's more secure than MSIE, and very easy to use. The only time I use MSIE is when visiting Microsoft for a download because they do MSIE only code.
