Sorry, I'm a little late getting this posted. I could not be happier with BIAB as a great software tool in my studio. I get the updates to my Audiophile HD version every year or so. In those years we have gone from the small 2.5 HD that was buss power only, to a few years of the large black HD, that mounted on a base and had a very large, sturdy, power supply. That works so good with my desk top, that I'm still using 2011.5 ver, so I can continue to use the power supply. Since then 2012 went back to the small housing, but had a jack for a power adapter (but it didn't come with it, and the packaging and booklett did not tell you what power rating to buy. AC, DC, # of Volts, Ma rating). Now the 2013 HD is back to buss power only, no option for external power source. That means, for us who go out with laptops and BIAB, we better have two open USB ports.
Is PG Music always trying new HD's ( I know the early ones were ify)? Is it just luck of the draw at ordering time, which one I will receive? Can I request a certain style HD as I order? PLEASE guys, that external power suppy is important!! Can someone tell me what power supply to use with my 2012 HD, so I can stay mobile?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi J8,
Our plans are to stick with the bus powered hard drives ( no plugin required ).
Hard drive sizes and BiaB requirements change from year to year, but we don't see any big changes coming in the near future.
Thanks for your support.
Have Fun! Peter Gannon PG Music Inc.

HI Pete,
Can you at least let me in on power supply to use with my 2012? Most laptops come with maybe 3 USB ports, at most. If your using USB with your audio interface & BIAB, thats it. Is the thought from PG that we should copy the supplied HD to an after market ( Seagate) for regular use and just leave the supplied as a backup?
If so, well ok, but someone must know what supply works with last years HD model? Kindly post it.

Instead of a dedicated Wall Wart supply for the one hard drive, I recommend use of a Powered USB Hub device. Best of all worlds, will power any USB device, will extend the available number of USB ports on the computer and comes with its own Wall Wart supply.
Mine works a treat, not only on hard drives, but also with those USB powered MIDI keyboards.
Search for "Powered USB Hub"...

Just a recommendation from a satisfied user. I've had very good luck with full power "powered" USB 2.0 and 3.0 hub devices from Plugable ( http://plugable.com/products ). They provide full 3A and 4A hubs for power hungry devices. Eliminates a bunch of wall warts and consistent power supply to each port regardless of device.

Thanks for the suggestions on the powered hubs. Are you both using the hubs to run your BIAB HD's and audio interfaces' ? I had stayed away from hubs with realtime streaming of audio & MIDI (BIAB HD) and also an audio interface due to the throughput bottleneck at the main USB port, out to the computers in port. I'm on USB 2.0 ( I expect with USB 3.0 it won't be a problem ). I had heard those devices shoud have there own dedicated ports. What has your experience been?

I found that I could stick my BIAB drive on the powered USB , my wireless mouse usb, my BIAB Data drive (one of my older BIAB ones that I am recycling) BUT had to connect my M-Audio fast track c600 into the PC itself.
Works like a charm ....
I'm doing allright for Country Trash ....
I used to care, but things have changed (Bob Dylan)

I have used powered hub for exactly what I've already stated that I have used it for.

No, I use the powered hubs for everything else not related to music production. That way, as you mentioned, all external audio HD's, audio interfaces, midi interfaces, etc mainline directly into my desktop.

Basically what I'm trying to tell you is to leave your aftermarket USB sound device attached directly to one of the ports on the computer itself, use the hub for the BB USB drive, perhaps some other peripherals such as MIDI keyboards or other hard drives, cameras, mp3 players, etc.
