Hi Graham,

The problem lies with the fact that the aging MIDI Standard does not account for Chord Data. Therefore there isn't any.

There is one Chord Data scheme that is gaining in popularity, however neither BiaB nor Sibelius (to my knowledge, I use Sibelius but have not felt the need to upgrade for quite sometime, ver. 4 is still doing what I need here...) can recognize that Chord Data scheme.

Sibelius does contain an algorithm that can "get" chords from MIDI files, much like the Wizard inside BB, but these schems cannot be surefire because it is often the case that there are notes included in MIDI files that are not notes that would be played as part of the chord underneath, such as Melody notes, embellishments, etc. as well as Timing Issues when there is for example a moving note line. The algorithms will identify these extraneous notes as extensions and such and the chord recognition becomes a bit crazy at times.

So, when I transfer from BB to Sibelius, I still have to bite the proverbial bullet, print out the Leadsheet from the BiaB file to paper, import the BB files into Sibelius, and then type the chords into Sibelius. That seems to actually work faster in a lot of cases as versus trying to clean up the MIDI Chord Recognition stuff.
