I was listening to satellite radio on the way to a customer site last week and heard Leon Russell's "Song for You" I had not heard that one in ages but reminded me that he has some great music. I decided to post here because the thing that struck me about him is that he doesn't have a great voice but very memorable and full of emotion. We have had that conversation here before about the feeling you put in to your performance.
Leon "warbles" his way through "Song for You" and you can hear his pain through the performance. His piano playing on this piece is lovely too.

I've always dug Leon, have always dug this tune as well. Mr. Russell is also the composer of this wonderful tune as well. Much can be accomplished by the performer who pays attention to counting and timing. He's been called, "The Master of Time and Space" for just that reason. And, I think if you listen long enough to both performers, you may just find out that Leon has been standing on the shoulders of the *other* Master of Time and Space -- Ray Charles. Brother Ray pays tribute to Leon's tune... And then there's one more guy who has got to have callouses on his ears from listening to and emulating Ray Charles. He and Leon worked together at one time, creating some classics. And Leon played THE GUITAR and not the piano much of the time for those. Performer, Songwriter, Producer. Joe! Yeah, baby. --Mac

Right on Mac. His Wikipedia page has some great info on Leon. I just purchased his greatest hits and each are great songs. I have been listening to it all weekend...wife will probably not EVEN go to see him with me when he comes to Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX in June.
