My wife bought me a beautiful computer, it just came today. I can't remember all the specs, but its an HP Pavilion, quad core AMD Phenom, 4 gig of memory, 300 gig hard drive, I can't remember the rest. I have been having problems with my old one and was using a laptop. I'm too clumsy to type on that little keyboard, and too blind too read the screen. Glad to have my twenty two inch monitor back. Now I need to order an enclosure for my second hard drive with all my songs on it. And I've got to get used to Vista Home Premium. So far it's not too bad.

Feeling pretty good Don.Yesterday they started me on Procrit because I was so anenic. So I go to leesville on Mondays for lab work and a B12 shot. Wed Cancer Center in Alexandria for a dressing change over this port, and then flush it out. I swear they put itching powder under the dressing, it drives me nuts. Originally they gave me six months to a year and a half but I'm responding to the chemo better than expected. So maybe I'll be around a while, who knows.

Hey Howard! How you doing? Good to see you posting and excited about your new computer! I am so glad you're reponding well to the chemo. Everyone is different, you know. Some do much better than others, and they get an average from all. You're obviously on the better end of the spectrum, and that makes us all happy for you.

Howard,
I'm glad you're responding to the chemo, it's always good to tell the docs that they have no clue what they're talking about!

Something like this, Howard, will allow you to connect either up a SATA drive, or an EIDE drive, and outputs either firewire or USB 2.0.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817729001. Now, this is for a 3.5" drive, if you have a smaller 2.5 laptop drive, you can find smaller enclosures for them, too

That would make things easy for you to retrieve your music.

Glad you're feeling better.

Gary

Howard, I’m so glad you are responding so well to the chemo. I’ve been there-done that and I know it’s not fun. But the doctor’s estimates are often wrong, another been there-done that.

You are in our prayers and we pray you will be around for many more messages!

Thanks guys.I love my new computer, but this morning I tried BIAB, but it wouldn't open. Real Band opened with several error messages. I wonder if I installed BB on my hard drive if it would work. I know some of you use it with Vista. Gary, we ordered an enclosure for my HD with all my music files on it.

That's odd Howard. I have an HP with Vista 64 and I just plug the external hard drive band in a box came in and go to the hard drive, find band in a box's exe file and click on it. Works fine here. I do get an error message when leaving the program but I just ignore it. Maybe I set file permissions on the drive after plugging it in the first time.

Good luck with the health issues....hang in there...

>>> I know some of you use it with Vista.

Hi Howard,

Glad to see you back on the forum. If running from the USB drive, you should turn off User Account Control (UAC) in Vista. That is done from the Control Panel - User Accounts. This will stop Vista from issuing all those nag screens when you open a program etc.

Have Fun!

Welcome back Howard.

Prove those doctors wrong and hang out for much longer than they expect you to.

Hi Howard,
+1 to all the above.
Tell the doctors, you have other plans.

I found out that if I told my doctor that six months to a year was just not enough time for me to pay his bills off that he gave me more time to live...

Now I see the flaw in socialist medicine. No bills. So they just let me slip away.
They had a sign at the doctor's office says only 2 complaints dealt with at a time. That's cause they get a flat fee for seeing you, and want you to come back. So I says, "Doc these 2 fingers hurt."

He thinks for a minute, "Why just those two". I said,

"Ill be back next week about the next 2, and after 5 visits you are going to find out they all hurt, but the sign says just 2 complaints per visit."

Bob (my doc) to me.."it's quitting time, lets go for a single malt and see how they are and I'll get an xray."

Single malt was good, xray said "Rhumatoid Arthritis, severe osteoporosis in left and, moderate in the right hand."

Bob says, "your drinking hand is holding up, but the other one might get better if you laid off the booze, and no golf."

There went my one bad walk in the country a year.

Got painkillers. Way more side effects than from them than the single malt, but the government pays for the pain killers. Asked for a prescription for single malt but am not holding my breath.

Thanks every one. Peter, that fixed it. Now I have to get my DXI back. The sound is good and I havent installed my Audigy yet.I thought I might leave it out since I don't use MIDI any more, at least I haven't been. I'd like to do some more recording but my playing sounds mod=stly like a raw beginner. I do seem a little stronger now so it may get better.

Just keep playin' a little each day.

It'll come back, you know the drill.

My surgeon told me not to play my trumpet.

Which is like tellin' me not to eat.

He then wanted to know why I was healing so fast...
