Hi Folks,
I have a question about the Music Business. My church is getting ready to launch out a TV program.....possible a 30 minute weekly program......or it might be bi-weekly (we're not sure yet). As the music Director of my church, I have been assigned the task to research and gather information such as...."What music do we used as a theme song (background music) for this TV program? Can we use....say.......an Israel & New Breed Song....or one of these HillSong Worship songs...........and if so, how do we get permission and approximately how much it cost? If not then do we need to come up with our own original music from our church?

You need to look into LICENSING, not separate permission from authors who may or may not own the copyrighted works.
Licensing costs are typically based on audience size.
The Harry Fox agency is the place to start.
You can Bing for the url to the Harry Fox agency.
If you are planning to broadcast on radio or tv, the station may have already paid such licensing fees, you should also check with them so as to not have to pay royalties for licensing twice.
I recommend that you and your church people also consult with a Music Writing Attorney about these things as well. Not just any member of the bar, but an Attorney who specializes in Music-related Copyright Law.
Another way to handle the situation is to create your own music works for the performances. With Band in a Box, that might be a lot easier than it appears.

I'd recommend contacting the artists' management - they'll know who to get in touch with. A lot of the time licensing is more complex than even just knowing the label because publishing is, well, complicated... for example they might have multiple organizations that run online distribution vs. TV.
