I've been playing with BB from the external HD, and can not get vsc to play. Is that a problem with Vista? I'm sure this has been asked before, sorry I've missed a lot. Also I have the Audigy from my old computer but have not installed it in the new one. I've heard there were problems with Vista?

Howard:

You didn't specify the other day when you announced your new system, but since your new system sounds like mine, I bet it is running Vista 64-bit.

VSC DXi does not run on the 64-bit, and I don't think there's a workaround. (If anyone knows of one, I would like to know). I'm told it runs on the 32-bit OS. Meanwhile, I bought Coyote Forte, and I bet you have it too.

Luck,
Brad

Hi Howard,

With Vista the basic VSC will not work but VSC DXi works fine with Vista 32

Regarding the Audigy card it was not designed for Vista as Vista processes audio much faster than XP and so the X-Fi range was developed to work with Vista - it processes audio up to 40x faster than Audigy

The minimum soundcard in Vista from the new Soundblaster range is the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card which has the valuable "what you hear" feature - audio creation as well as a link to front panel connection

As previously stated the Forte Coyote soft synth seems to work across most combinations

It must first be installed to the C: drive from the USB drive. The same goes for DXi effects and the System Fonts for notation too, I think. These items take up very little space.

Thanks Mac, I think I might install the whole thing on C. I've got a lot of room. I'm still gonna have all my songs on an external. The enclosure is supposed to get here today.Brallan, it is 64 bit. At first there was an option to open internet explorer in 32 or 64, the option is no longer there.

Hi Howard

Getting back to your original question - if your computer is a Vista 64 then VSC3 or VSC DXI will not be any good

I believe that Forte Coyote works well with any Vista

This is slightly off track, but another solution, you can use an external Key board, and set up the General Midi 2. That is what i have been doing and being a guitar player i am getting a lot more use from my Roland fantom, as well as, about zero latency.

Yep, this is the setup I am using, even down to the Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeGamer. As recommended on this forum, by jazzman and others.

I would warn that the various Creative drivers you need still have some problems, but those released in Feb and March by Creative helped a lot with some of the components and associated software. The Creative automatic updating still does not function with Vista.

I still have a problem, reported by others on the forum, that the Forte Coyote switches itself off every so often - or maybe BB does it. The only way I have discovered you can fix it, is to go to the Audio settings and use the ASIO Audio Driver Type and correct the other settings. Then, if you are lucky enough to get it started, you can usually switch back to the MME driver - which somehow sounds better to my ears.

I notice that a new Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Series Beta Driver 2.18.0013 for Windows 7 was released four days ago. I don't know anyone in Australia who has Windows 7 yet but some American friends tell me it is more stable. Well maybe but Creative's previous Beta drivers were a disaster. They do say it is unsupported. I ain't surprised.

Hi Graham,

My colleague is beta testing Windows 7 and the Creative drivers are working fine and as they should - beta versions for most products are not supported anyway.
Windows 7 is a different concept and the bloatware has been greatly reduced making it very stable

I use X-Fi Xtreme Gamer for Music Creation and Entertainment modes and all drivers and features are fine and working in Vista 32 with the latest drivers - in fact I have never had problems with drivers since installation

Our workshop have installed over 400 units without any problems but have had to correct a few self installed boards with faulty/incomplete driver installations probably due to virus/spyware applications preventing full installation

The Music Creation features EAX/Chrystalizer/SVM/EQ - front panel connectivity and what you hear makes an excellent package and a joy to play and record BIAB on

G'day,

Mine is 64 bit Vista and that does seem to be the problem. I did think of changing back to 32 bit the last time you said that. On the other hand, more and more people are using 64 bit and it is becoming almost essential in the software business where I work - construction estimating, CAD etc.

G'day Graham,

Ah yes you have the Vista 64 which I am sure will be the standard in the future and drivers will come more available

On Windows 7 - " One of the strongest messages we heard was that you want your PC to work the way you expect it to and be less cumbersome to manage and use. Windows 7 is faster, easier to use, and more predictable.
Faster, more responsive performance

Nobody likes to wait. That's why Windows 7 is ready and responsive. We've focused on basics—especially where speed matters. It starts up, shuts down, resumes from standby, and responds quicker. You’ll have fewer interruptions and can recover more quickly from problems when they do occur because Windows 7 will help you fix them when you want".
- Windows 7 overview

I am going to see if BIAB can be installed and used on the new version soon - I assume that the guys at PG Music have already tried it.
