Keep this simple, but its not.
Are there rules regarding how the pianoroll is used so Notation also changes? Or vice-versa?
These melodies are really nice, so hate to gen new soloists.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Frank,
No rules. Piano Roll Mode is simply an alternative mode for entering notes. Simply enter notes and the notation will adjust accordingly. Piano Roll is a whole heap more powerful than Notation Mode. I tend to use Notation Mode for entering my melodies but when I want to create dynamic shape to them or enter triplets (or other kinds of tuplets) I always switchover to the piano roll.
It's well worth learning how to use!
All the best, Noel

Thank you, Noel. I also use Notation Mode to enter notes, and I use Piano Roll Mode to set the timing on the beginning and ending of individual notes and to set individual note volume or accents.

Noel,
I have made modifications using the PianoRoll and it does not change the notation. Thats why the "versus" posting...
Using Power Tracks I have created/edited over 800 multi-pads for the Yamaha arranger keyboard, so spent a few hours with the piano-roll.
Thank you!

Hi again Frank, I'm sorry. I didn't appreciate your problem. I understand what you mean now. There are a few balls to juggle when working with Notation Mode! Firstly, it's resolution is only to 1/16th notes (in Australia we call them semiquavers). So if your notation changes are of values less than 1/16th of a beat, it's unlikely they'll display well. They'll still play ok, though. Also, if you are after triplets (any type of note), these can be set very accurately in Piano Roll Mode but may or may not display well in notation mode. In addition to the above, BIAB now automatically adds a "Tick Offset" when a style is generated. This is found under the "Opt" in Notation Mode. The value of the off-set changes with each style and even each instrument that's added to the overall. I've found that sometimes setting this back to zero will help the display. Sometimes it helps the display to actually have the off-set in place. Lastly, the display of notation is also controlled by having an even-beat style (EV) or a swing-beat style (SW). What was the problem you were experiencing? Let me know and I'll try to reproduce it and see if I can help Kind regards, Noel

Noel,
I am working with progressions from music about 3-400 years old. Am using Dimension Pro, Rapture, or Sampletank Omnisynth 2, or combination.
Using the selected style I then did do this, not sure which tho. One method is to take a Realtrack instrument. Render a soloist track until I get a decent sound. The realtrack being used is critical for next step. It has to be cross-compatible with a replacement midi. A guitar strum usually would not work well with and midi choir. Take the Copy track from to, using the RT for a midi source. This midi source is used to usually drive my melody.
Second method is to simply select a midi instrument using the soloist. This also usually ends up way different voicing being used.
One piece of music uses a couple of chords several places. The "fatal sound" problem is right at the last two bars of the chorus.
Said this was complex...not confusing to me, for have performed it quite a few times.
Music piece number two
The source of the Realtrack to midi copy/move was an acoustic guitar. In few different places in the song, multiple notes played at same time. In pianoroll, I simply deleted the extra notes. Worked fine except for one spot. In the pianoroll deleted the extra note. The sour note still played even tho it had been erased. Looking over at the notation aspects for same measure there were 3 triplets(waltz) unchanged. The last note of the last triplet was/is the culprit.
Whew that even wears me out. Could go back regen everything, but the melody is really great and hate to lose it.
Thanks.

Frank,
Thank you for the added insight. It was very valuable.
The fact that the Piano Roll and the Notation are disagreeing is making me wonder if you have frozen the track you're working on. When a track is frozen, it's not possible to implement changes even though it sometimes appears that the changes have been made. I've been caught by this a couple of times. Could this be the problem?
Regards, Noel

Noel,
No no tracks in either song were frozen. But had an idea while noodling in my recliner downstairs.
Am going to load a song, rename/save it. Delete all the notes in the ???? area. Manually insert them back, either notation or pianoroll. I can get photo copies of accurate correct sounding notes from a different part of the song. Crossing my fingers, but this will probably work. Will post when completed. Thanks for you help!

The Melody and Soloist tracks are really the only tracks where we can Edit notes and the program won't change them if Gen/Play button is pushed or the song is reloaded.
There are workarounds to doing it to the other Autoaccompaniment tracks, involves a bit more on our part like changing notes then Freezing that particular track so that the Style won't regenerate a new accompaniment part over your entered notes.

Mac,
Excellent point. Was not completely aware of this. Was aware there are other tracks where sound comes from, sometime I have to mute thru and audio when working.
Did not of of the track tho.
Thanks!
Resolution, Mac gave me another idea. Another live track creating conflict sounds. Yes it was. Ended up deleting 2 notes from each chorus also change 1 note in ending and deleting another one.
Within the melody track changed a total of 6 notes for both chorus's.
Both of the altered tracks were midi tracks, one was generated from copy from to function of a Realtrack.
Not dead sure, but think a frozen midi track can inhibit movement of notes in pianoroll.
Bummer having these sour ones, but did learn quite a bit about the creation of the music.
Thanks for all you folks help.
Will note this song 2 blups in my signature when putting it up. Am waiting on Art agreements right now.
