I'm curious to know how many places are willing to pay for a 20 piece band. Do you have different pricing schemes for different customers?

Thanks for all the great comments guys - we kinda like us too  The vision you saw was shot at a concert we set up ourselves at Dural Country Club. We hired the premises and sold tickets - had around 250 to 300 guests. It was as much an exercise for one of our singers' mum to practice her marketing and promotion skills as anything. We made a profit on the night but not really very much. We used to have a regular gig in a local pub (Jack's Bar and Grill) but they went under (still haven't figured out how a pub can go broke in Australia ????). We used to get a proportion of the bar takings which was usually enought to cover our costs. We're performing again in August and again we're hiring the premises and selling tickets, but this time the proceeds will be going to a cancer research charity. Unfortunately I won't be able to be there as I have a prior commitment to play in the orchestra for a local amateur performance of "Hairspray". Gonna be fun but I'm disappointed at missing the band gig. We're currently looking for another regular gig similar to the Jack's one. We'd love it if we had enough work to feed ourselves, but in the meantime the more we play out the better we get and a regular gig that covered costs would be very welcome.

It is indeed possible to run a bigband as a business locally, there is typically at least one example in about every major city in the US.
It takes a lot more in the way of organization, library, rehearsal, audition, musicians, etc. but one must also realize just how mature the bigband scenario really is, at this point in time it is more like recreating than creating when viewed from that aspect.
"If you build it, they will come."
Building the bigband is one of the highest hurdles IMO. But once built, it may surprise those who have no firsthand experience with it how many gigs there are, from weddings to special events to ballroom dancing clubs to concerts.

Not to knock this particular vid, good promo, but to knock video editors in general, and directors with multicams who apparently insist on calling the ECU of the bass player while the tenor sax solo is going on, etc. They do so good with sports...

Not to knock this particular vid, good promo, but to knock video editors in general, and directors with multicams who apparently insist on calling the ECU of the bass player while the tenor sax solo is going on, etc. They do so good with sports...
Yeah... I admit I was a little disappointed with that aspect of the video editing. The music wasn't from the gig, it was from a recording we did last year. I can only assume the audio recording from the night wasn't of sufficient standard to be used for the promo. The editor is actually one of my fellow 'bone players (though he wasn't there that night). He did a nice job on the creative side but by not using the audio from the night it made it impossible to sync anything. I haven't heard the raw recording of the night so I can't comment on its quality.
