Here’s a really strange one.

I have lost the use of:
- the mixer effects on audio tracks (the software behaves just fine – no error message – but the signal is not transformed at all). Accessing these real time effects from the 'Edit DX' button on the Tracks screen is equally fruitless.
- the ‘track category options’ for audio tracks. The categories ‘pick/pluck, wind, keyboard…etc) come up fine, but all the sub-categories appear as ‘unassigned’

OK, the details now:

Power Tracks Pro Audio 11.0 (4)
Windows XP Home SP 3
Audio SE Sound card

I had an online chat with the guys at PG Support and apart from eliminating the obvious causes (are the right boxes enabled/disabled), they could not come up with any immediate fix.

I don’t think I made any change to my setup. The only possible factor that may be at work, although this appears a long shot, is that I upgraded my PC Protection package to BitDefender Internet Security 2009.

Even stranger is that all the audio effects function just fine when used « destructively » from the Edit/Audio effects menu.

So my questions are:
- has this ever happened to anyone else ?
- what would be the likely causes to investigate
- can anyone think of any other possible solutions before I reset PTPA to default and lose all my settings ?

Many many thanks,

Marc

Two entirely different pieces of code. The destructive effects under the File menu are NOT DX effects at all.

Try rolling the OS back to the last Restore Point before the update to see. This is reversible if it proves not to be the culprit.

Check your microsoft Directx by typing "dxdiag.exe" without the quotes in the Start -> Run box and hitting Enter. Note the DX version reported as well as performing all the tests.

You may have no resort other than reinstalling PT overtop itself, DX effects and all. You shouldn't lose any of your songfiles at all when doing that. I never have.

Many thanks for that, Mac.

Pleased to report that the sys restore operations went just fine. Restored back to a point (10 days ago) and then back to now, but I still had the same loss of real time effects at every time.

The DX tests all seemed to be fine (report below) and I haven't noticed any other sound-related problem.

Looks like I'll have to move on to the restore default option in the PTPA programme.
THe PGMusic assistance chatline mentioned that this can be achieved just by deleting a couple of files (I shall have to be reminded of which!).
So I guess you try the oldest trick in the book of keeping the existing files, renaming them oldxxxxxx.ini or something similar and moving them to another location. That way they can be recovered and returned to the orginal folder if needed.

Just for info. you can get the sub-categories of the Track Category Audio Effects to appear or disappear by, respectively, authorising and not authorising indexing of the main Power Tracks application folder.

OK we can both stop looking now.

IN the prefs/audio tab there is a checkbox which, sure enough, is labelled 'RealTime Effects Enabled'.

Needless to say, it was unchecked. Funny I don't even remembering opening that interface lately.

Of course this is where I should have looked first but I didn't know of the existence of the box.

Thanks again for your time in researching this one, Mac.
