Line 6 makes some pretty good stuff that's designed specifically for guitar, complete with onboard FX and preamp. But if you're contemplating doing more than that you may want something a little more generalized. There are many mfrs of good USB interfaces; a search of the forums will turn up much information. You need to define a few things to narrow down your hunt. How many channels to record simultaneously? What sample rate? What connection (which you've already answered)? Other preferences such as device layout and location of knobs and jacks and included software may influence your decision. You'll get some good answers here. But think about the above, do some research on your own, and come back with more questions. HTH, Richard

I am using an Apogee Duet. If you want to use something like Guitar Rig, they have a USB pedal board that you can use to plug your guitar into and use as a pedal board (I think 6 or 8 switches and a pedal).
There are cheaper options, however, if you want to record, you need a decent sampling rate.

what is a good (i guess usb) hardware device to get my guitar plugged into my computer? There are quite a few options, but it would be good for you to state what your intentions are in order to steer you towards that which would make the most sense for you. For example, someone wanting to make good quality recordings would want to invest in a higher quality guitar system, while someone wishing to use the programs for practice, or even for gaining knowledge about recording, but not wishing to break the bank, could easily get by with one of the simpler and less expensive options. So what are your intended uses and goals for this? --Mac

HTH, Richard i'm not versed enough to even know about those things you mentioned to ask. ;-) being so new none of that crossed my mind. i was watching a PG tutorial on amplitube and that's when i thought it would be interesting and educational to plug my guitar into my computer. total n00b here. i'll check line6 and "search" the forums here.

Alesis GuitarLink Plus Behringer UCG102 Guitar-to-USB Interface MIDItech Guitarface II USB audio interface Alesis iO2 EXPRESS for my wallet and its "phantom power" capabilities i'm liking the "Alesis iO2 EXPRESS". it will bypass my sound card and i think not have latency issues. thank for the help

I wasn't aware of the Alesis unit. It appears to have a LOT of bang for the buck. It's on sale today at Musician's Friend for $74 (normally $99) with free shipping.

Guitar to Line 6 POD to the interface to the computer......
works for me.... listen to my music to hear it.... especially Emerald Eyes
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
