Hi jazzerjbird,

Pop_3_4.sty is one of the older all-MIDI styles.

A certain number of these older MIDI styles are indeed at lower velocities or volumes, if you will, due to how they were created, and at a time when these differences weren't so prevalent.

PGMusic later created an easy, one-shot solution for the problem, though.

Hit the Prefs toolbar button, then, in the Prefs Window. locate the "Arrange" button in the top row and hit it.

At the top right of the Arrange window is a command, "Normalize MIDI Volumes to..."

Checking that box and then entering an appropriate number into the slot next to it can solve this problem for you.

Try entering a value of "90" for starters, but don't be afraid to revisit and tweak that number accordingly until it sounds good on your particular system.

This routine uses MIDI Velocities by taking a look at the existing Velocities in the Style file and intelligently boosting as necessary. Almost works like an Audio Compressor with a fixed kneepoint, only it uses MIDI Velocities to address this particular problem. Works very well IMO.

Yet another example of Band in a Box genius in methodology, giving us a way to use those older styles that weren't as loud sounding with the newer styles that are.
