I installed the full wma version on my c drive. But, when Im done I want the better quality audiophile renderings. Can I just switch realdrums and realtracks folders in the preferences section to get the desired results?

Yes. You may not like my answer, but I know one way this is possible.

The audiophile version contains all the .WMA files as well as the corresponding .WAV files. If BIAB finds the .WAV file, it uses that. Otherwise, it loads then uncompresses the .WMA file. To my knowledge, there is no user switch for you to control this.

So, what you could do is have both the regular and the audiophile RealTracks available, such as your .WMA set on the internal hard drive and the Audiophile set on the supplied external drive from PG Music. You would go into Opt. Preferences, RealTracks and change the location of the set you wanted to use. It's a kludge, but it would work.

ps Do the same with the RealDrums.

By the way - if you think you will save time developing a song by using the .WMA files, it's just the reverse: using the Audiophile version is ever so slightly faster because BIAB does not have to uncompress the audio files. Before the Elastique algorithm was adopted a couple of years ago, this made even more of a speed difference. Now it's less significant.

my reason for wanting this was redundancy. Sometimes Im using too many sups (one for biab, one for protools, etc) and then some software cant find the hardrive. So , I reinstalled biab putting 80 gigs of wmas on the c drive for a idiot proof solution, so I don't get embarrassed when something doesn't work in front of my producer. If I can switch them, then I'll go home and play around with the hard drives until it works. Thanks for the imput.

those who have the availability of both can set up identical songfiles that are only different as to the type of Realtrack used.

Then, it can be both fun and revealing to come up with a way to Double Blind yourself as to which is which, playing them back at different times and trying to hear if you can spot the difference. Or not.

It isn't as easy to do as it sounds...

In another thread I commented on this. Did you specifically buy the audiophile version? It is the most expensive option on the purchase page.

If you don't have the AUDIOPHILE version, this discussion is moot. You can not get audiophile waves from the normal WMA version.

I paid the full price. My wave files are on my external drive and the wma files are on the c drive. Im wondering if I can just go to the preferences section and merely change the locations of the drum and realtrack folders respectively.

The answer is YES, provided that you do whatever it takes to make sure that BB RELOADs Realtracks, such as defeating any Frozen tracks first before hitting the Gen/Play button to reload. Don't hit Replay...

I don't know if it will work when using Frozen tracks or not, but that is what I would want to try first, because regenerating means also getting a slightly different performance.
