How do yo convert RealTracks to MIDI data. I know it can be done as I have done it before. As I remember, it was more of a "work-around" than a feature. Anyone remember the process?

Thanks,
Robb

Click EDIT > Copy/Move Tracks
Select dropdown source track. That would be your RealTrack.
Select Far right destination track.
Click OK - Do it.

I usually dont mess with the action, just use default.

You must keep in mind that Not all realtracks have underlying
midi information.

Good luck, this is a great feature.

MIDI notation is only avasilable on Realtracks where the Green trackname is underscored. Some don't have notation available.

Isn't also true that we can export the RT track as a midi file provided that there is a notation info in it?

Hi Mike,

Yes that's true if you go through the steps that Seeker has outlined and assign the file to a track as MIDI.

Regards,
Noel

One day, I decided to do that very thing.... convert a really nice real track piano into midi so I could use a different synth to play the piano sounding better than the real track had rendered it.

Great plan right?

I thought so..... so I embarked on the transformation. The midi track was completed and I dragged it over to my DAW and inserted a nice piano synth and hit play.

GAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! it had been converted alright..... but is didn't even come close to the notes and playing style that was in the original real track..... it sounded like a hum drum generic midi track.....

nope..... didn't work for me like I wanted.

The MIDI associated with RealTracks is really for notation purposes only. When RealTracks came out, many musicians clamored to have notation available so that they could learn the licks that RealTracks players had recorded and so the Notation feature was added for that reason. It is not a performance and thus lacks any of the other aspects of music other than note name, duration and rhythmic value as would be printed on the staff.

Just like there's some parts of town I don't go to.... there's aspects of BB/RB that I don't try to use.

The parts I do use, obviously, work perfectly for my needs and desires.

I think it would be nice to have MIDI for some real tracks. I admit to going back to MIDI tracks simply so I wouldn't be frustrated when a near perfect track was just not editable to make it fit snugly with the intended destination in my music project.

Everything comes with advantages and disadvantages. If I find a RT that fits what I want to do perfectly, I'll use it. But if not, I'll choose MIDI because it is so editable.

I also mix RTs with MIDI.

It all depends on the song. For me, the music always comes first, and the best tool for what that music needs is the tool I use.
