Hi lingyai,

Thank you for posting the file. It helped a great deal. I downloaded your song and had a play around with it. When I isolated part of the problem I sent the information to Mac to confirm my find.

Here's what I wrote to Mac.

When I noticed the file was MGX, I knew that Melody or Soloist was set to multichannel. It was the Melody track. I generated the song and the behaviour that lingyai describes occurred.

Next I set the Melody track to "Single Channel"** and saved the file as MGU. I regenerated and the problem still existed. I noticed that volumes of all tracks other than Piano and Strings were zero.

Lastly, I right-clicked on Bar 1 to find out what settings were there since the red box showed something was present. It seems lingyai had set every bar to 3/4. When I "reset all bars", down the bottom of that dialogue window, and then regenerated the song, the steel guitar generated correctly.

My take on this is that the style lingyai has used is 4/4 and s/he is forcing it to 3/4. While the finger-picking guitar generates under these conditions, the steel guitar does not. It seems there's more to this than I understand.

**Note: to set the Melody track to "Single Channel", click on "Melody" on the uppermost menu (top of the screen) and then select "Track Type".

It is in the FAQs, we have to make the first bar 4 beats and THEN change the rest to 3 beats.

The link below will take you to one of the FAQs where varying time signatures is discussed.

If you're interested, I've sent you a private message with a link to a modified version of your file. I've used a country waltz style that contains a pedal steel in 3/4.

For what it's worth, I've always found it better to use a style in the time signature that fits the music rather than to try and truncate a 4/4 style.

Hope this helps,
Noel
