Trying to get BB to sync up with an audio file is one of the most frustrating things I have ever attempted.

I have had people send me audio recordings and asked me to add other instruments. Many of those were recorded without a click track and as a result the tempo varies just a bit in places. However, that "just a bit" is enough to throw everything out of sync. One girl sent an audio track that wavered in it's tempo noticeably, and she managed to sing it half way between the half steps in the keys..... not to mention the background noise and room noise was substantial. I ended up asking for a better recording... one on key and with a click to keep on tempo, but that never happened. I never heard from her again.

I now ask anyone who is sending me tracks up front....to record it at a specific tempo and to use a click track to stay on the beat.

Having said that.... in some DAW's you can actually use a function that allows one to snap the audio to a beat. I don't think my DAW's have that function, maybe one of them does..... but I tend to work from clicks.

In my experience, it's better to work from a BB track with a specific tempo and key than to work the other way around from an audio recording. I will say that I have done it successfully though.... but the songs in question came from a semi-pro studio with 2 measures of count in, at a specific tempo, and on key.

If you are working in a DAW.....any DAW and are using midi and audio tracks together, you really have to pay attention to the tempo or time sig changes because audio uses points on the time line as reference and when you change the tempo, the audio points will no longer line up properly. The more edits you have in a given audio track the more you will notice this discrepancy on playback. Throw in a dozen audio tracks and you have a huge mess if you're not careful.
