OK...now that it is impossible for PG to issue a mid-year release...and since the "2013.5" thread is now 20 pages deep, let's put the 2013.5 thread to rest and make comments about the NEXT release here.
I'll start. While, as has been pointed out, PG is a private company and can do what they want, when they want. I get that.
However, there is a "spirit of partnership" between software vendors and their user base and that suggests that at least SOME guidance should be forthcoming...even if the guidance is along the lines of..."We're working on some great features but we just cannot predict when they will be ready to roll out. Please stay tuned.
Even the famously "closed mouthed" Apple has been routinely leaking product feature and release date targets for years.
Conversely, remaining totally silent carries with it at least a suggestion (if not the reality) of complacency and/or disrespect regarding the user base.
Finally, as the 2013.5 thread shows...if the debate/discussion over new version cycle goes on for too long, then feathers get ruffled and the legendary civility for which this forum is known for can become eroded.
So, there is almost no useful purpose served by total silence in my view.
Best, Jim

Hi Jim
I agree with your comments. We understand that it might be difficult to predict and therefore announce a release date, but it would be good to get some teasers such as "We are working on this, that and so on for the next release.
But I also understand that this might cause potential purchasers to hold-off, and that is not good business practice.
Overall, it's a tough call.
Regards
Trevor

Thanks Trevor.
I THINK it is typical for PG to offer a free upgrade path to those who buy in advance of a new release.
Best, Jim

Like everyone else, I'm anxious to see what the next release will offer. I've been upgrading with each release. However, I'm doing just fine with 2013. No hurry from me. I'm finding more work at the moment with an arranger keyboard than BIAB.

Trevor FWIW I think we should not put any pressure on PG Music by asking for update information. If they don’t say a word like what is happening now people get upset. If they say we are working on this or that as suggested in the above message and they can’t deliver then people will scream where is this or that, i.e. vaporware! It’s a no win situation for them IMO. When it comes to any updates for any software if it offers things that I can use then I will update, if not then I pass. So lets just chill and enjoy what we have now. I know for a fact that I can make a lot of music using what PM Music software I now have, how about you? Just my thoughts.
Life is short so make sure you spend as much time as possible on the Internet arguing with strangers.

Personally I have bigger fish to fry (man a fish fry would be nice) but I digress. What I mean is just what my brother from a different mother Mario stated above. I am so busy arranging new and old stuff in 2013 preparing for gigs that I can't even think about what is coming in 2014. With that said I will be like the rest of you, and that is ready to jump in with both feet when it does arrive. But just do not care when that date is, so until then, as Peter has said many times . . . I am having fun! later,

I have to agree with Mario and Danny. All that possibly could be said about 2014 has already been said in the other thread regarding 2013.5 no need to start another one. Its time to sit back, relax and think of other things. Let PG and the beta testers do their job now. I want to look forward to my Christmas present now without pulling bits of the wrapper off, trying to guess whats inside. Relax Jim. Musiclover

I want to look forward to my Christmas present now without pulling bits of the wrapper off, trying to guess whats inside. Relax Jim. Musiclover I am quite relaxed musiclover. I started the 2014 thread because, quite clearly, there isn't going to be a 2013.5...at least not one that should be referred to as such. "All that possibly could be said about 2014 has already been said in the other thread regarding 2013.5 no need to start another one." Actually, nothing as been said about v. 2014 since all the comments to date have related to....ummmm....2013.5. And trust me...there will be a TON of comments about 2014 when, as and if that version is released...all of which would properly be in a 2014 thread...not a 2013.5 thread. So possibly you might consider not giving me instruction on what threads I should or shouldn't start. (-:

Relax Jimmy Boy, I'm sure PG and the beta testers are working flat out to include things in 2014 version that otherwise might have appeared in 2013.5. So in that sense the 2013.5 started by Pat Marr is very appropriate. I was just looking at his first post the other day and more time has elapsed since he made it, than we have to wait for 2014 to arrive. And then when everything is ready at the PG end it will be all boxed and given to Santa who will Fly over your house come down your chimney and give it to you. Or maybe if you are a little impatient you could fly up in your little plane and meet him half way so as to get it quicker. Musiclover

Whenever the new release comes out, there is one thing of which, by now, we can be assured.
There will be "Over 50 New Features!"
Years of experience on these forums also tells me that a good 40 of those 50 New Features will be little understood and for most, likely functionally nonexistent.

Or maybe if you are a little impatient you could fly up in your little plane and meet him half way so as to get it quicker. Musiclover Well...THANKS for yet another snotty post. You seem to take a great interest in the state of my relaxation...or the lack thereof. But trust me, I'm SO relaxed that I'm having trouble staying awake to read your snippy little posts. "I'm sure PG and the beta testers are working flat out to include things in 2014 version that otherwise might have appeared in 2013.5 So in that sense the 2013.5 started by Pat Marr is very appropriate." Who said anything about Pat's thread being inappropriate??? Certainly not I. But unless you chronically tip back too many pints of Guinness before posting here...my POINT was that it is quite unlikely that there is going to be any such thing as 2013.5 so that thread has become OBSOLETE. Get it?? Therefore...take a DEEP breath "Danny boy"...relax yourself and consider how APPROPRIATE a thread is that relates to version 2014. If you search the forum, you will find "version threads" for every single version released during the entire existence of this forum. This isn't rocket science Danny old boy. And how do you know what size airplanes I fly Danny old boy??? (HINT: I have multi-engine, COMMERCIAL and instrument ratings). Finally, in case the above doesn't get through to your seemingly besotted brain, I don't care at all for your smart aleck and condescending posts...let alone your skewed sense of logic. (Yep...yep...lets keep posting to 2013.5 even AFTER 2014 is released. Would that suit you)? This forum is almost unique in the world of internet forums for its CIVILITY. If you have a problem with me, let's take it to private messages. Or, maybe you could thumb a ride with Santa and we could continue the conversation in person. But if you do, be sure to pound back a LOT of that Guinness. It gets COLD up there. (-: Your Pal, Jimmy Boy.

I still use Windows Office 2003, Quicken 2009 and a bunch of software that was made long ago by companies that no longer exist. It still works. If PGM decided to shut down today, would everybody uninstall BIAB? PGM doesn't owe anyone anything in terms of continuing to upgrade their products. Like my stock company disclaimer tells me, past performance is not indicative of future performance. If BIAB 2014 or 2015 never happen, I'm fine. Maybe something will come along to replace BIAB as the go to music creation software I use, but I don't see that happening any time soon. If a new release comes - great. If not, 2013 is great for me (I can't even begin to use all of the stuff it has now).

Since band in a box 2014 is still some months away and we have no way of knowing what new features will be in it, this thread is nothing more than speculation or rumours as far as I can see with due respect. Sure we can speculate but until we see the announcement of band in a box 2014 with its new features then all this is just a bit of idle chit-chat. Just my opinions others may differ. martin57

Hi Martin I think that nearly all of us are on the same page about any new release. The intent of Jim's thread was to bury adding further comments to the 2013.5 thread, as it is most likely that 2013.5 just won't happen. Yep, (except for the beta guys) nobody really knows "what's in the box" until there is an official announcement from PG, but that shouldn't preclude open discussion about any potential new release, even if some of it is speculative. Regards Trevor PS: Jim: yes, they were tears of laughter...

@Martin...Gotcha. Perfectly valid opinion. However, I'm quite certain that there hasn't been a pending new version that HASN'T been speculated about in advance...at least not that I can recall in the decade that I've been a BIAB user.
And typically, those "pre-release" speculative threads are among the most viewed and posted to threads in the entire forum.
So, right or wrong, it's really quite traditional.
And I would "speculate" that we are not "several months" from the new version. (If "several" is defined as 3 or more which would put the new version into calendar 2014 thereby missing the Holiday season.
Regards,
Jim

There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
