Once again BIAB has defeated me. There I was entering a new chord sequence with new lines whenever I wanted them using "part markers" when suddenly it all went sequentially straight with no new lines at the part markers. How did I do that?!?

I've looked at the "Display Options" and "Song settings" and the new line options are checked. I've searched the manual and the forum to no avail.

Can anyone here point me in the right direction?

Hi ricobasso,

I've found that when part markers are on neighbouring bars, it doesn't always create a new line. The 'new line' function seems to depend on which two neighbouring bars are involved. If, however, the part markers are separated by at least two bars, then a new line is created.

Have you lost all your 'new lines' or are you using part markers on neighbouring bars?

Kind regards,
Noel

No, there is always at least 2 bars between part markers; usually 4 or 8 but never less than 2. I have lost all my new lines.

Thank you for the graphic. That makes it much easier.

Try this and see what happens ...

Right click on the chord sheet and then select "Song Settings" (#1)

From the "Song Settings" menu, uncheck "Sections on a new line" (#2). Now select OK to exit.

Re-enter the "Song Settings" menu and check the "Sections on a new line", select OK, and exit.

See if this sequence of changes helps.

Regards,
Noel

I had already tried that. It did nothing but I have found a fix.

I went into Edit > rpts/codas/1st-2nd endings... Then I clicked on the "delete all" button - Bingo, it all reset itself and the new lines were back. Let me add that I had not previously intentionally added and repeats, codas, etc.

Sounds like a bug to me.........

Hi ricobasso,

That's a pretty clever discovery. It's unusual behaviour and I can reproduce the problem.

What I did was this ...

1. Right click on the chord sheet.

2. Select "Repeats / Codas / 1st-2nd Endings".

3. Select "Options" from the "Repeats" menu.

4. The above process opens "Display Options".

5. Once in "Display Options", I selected "Cancel" and all my line breaks disappeared.

6. To get them back, I did what you suggested and removed all repeats.

Glad you got it fixed.
Noel

Keep an eye on it, likely no a bug, per se, but sometimes in the process of editing a songfile, things can happen that create either a corrupted songfile or can cause BB to do things it shouldn't.

In the case of the corrupted songfile, the only cure I've found is to hit New and start entering the song all over again from scratch and deleting the old bad file.

Sometimes, if BB does not exit gracefully, such as a crash or freeze while working, or even a PC power interruption that forces a reboot while BB is running, certain key files that BB must write to upon exit will get corrupted. This can be solved easily enough by going to the BB Options menu and selecting, "Return to Factory Settings".

re old corrupt files I have to quote Lewis Carroll and say "contrariwise".
This instance was about the only time I did start from "New". Normally I edit an existing song and have never seen the problem before.

That's not what I meant.
