I'm a long time user of BIAB, but the latest version has me really frustrated. When it works, it does great things, but I keep having issues. I'll be working on a song and all of a sudden a certain track won't play. Currently, I can't get any sound from the bass track. I've tried using RealTracks, SuperMidi or a regular midi. Sometimes restarting the computer will clear up the problem, other times I have to do a clean install of BIAB(which is really time consuming.)Does anyone else have this issue and if so, how have you fixed it? Is there a preference file that's getting corrupt?
Really frustrated.

That must be frustrating.
Standard advice applies first: reboot (which you did), defrag (unless using an SSD) and Opt., Return to Factory Settings. Note that reinstalling would also accomplish Return to Factory Settings, but you may not have to go to so much trouble.
I recall having effects like that when I tested BIAB on an underpowered computer. Version 2013 does seem to take more horsepower. Can you describe your computer, and run Geekbench and report your score?
If RealTracks are involved, there are a few checkboxes in the Preferences, RealTracks that make things work better on 'slower' computers (if that's what you have). I have a Core 2 Duo which should be enough power, but I found it helped me to use those checkboxes.

You should not have to re install at all.
Be sure you haven't accidentally muted the track... I've had that happen on occasion.
Just the other day, I started to set up a vocal recording session. Replace the existing vox track with the final vox.... since I was recording live mic, I knew the speakers were off... so I put on the cans and hit playback to set levels..... nothing... no sound.... I saw the meters bouncing.... try a few things... nothing...
dang... the interface must have lost comm with the computer... it happens on occasion.... so a complete reboot and restart for computer and interface....
OK.. go again..... same thing.... ok, this should not be happening.... then.... I noticed that the cans were plugged into the laptop and NOT the DAW headphone amp...... the cans were in the wrong computer..... swapped the cans to the headphone amp... music!!!
silly stuff will get you.
If some of the tracks play, they should ALL play...so check the volume levels and the mute because it's not really evident that you have the tracks low or muted like in some DAW's.
I sometimes run BB/RB on an old, much slower, limited memory (compared to today's computers) laptop..... the one I mentioned above.... the programs still work just fine, however, loading the project, rendering the waves, and other processes take significantly longer on the lappy as compared to the studio DAW.
Give the folks at tech support a call. They are great and will help you sort out that issue in short order. They have assisted me and answered a few questions and issues I experienced.

Thanks guys. My computer is a 3rd generation i5 with 8GB of RAM and Windows 8.1. I checked and it was not muted. Tried to solo the track and got nothing. This particular time, it ended up being the song file. I created a new file and copied/pasted the chords from the original and it still didn't work. I had to re-enter the chords and select the parts I wanted for each track and got it to work.

There are too many places to check out why a particular instrument isn't playing. You might try right clicking on any instrument, combo-bass-piano-drums etc., and make sure that track is enabled. Later, Ray

...I created a new file and copied/pasted the chords from the original and it still didn't work. I had to re-enter the chords and select the parts I wanted for each track and got it to work. FWIW I've occasionally had to do the same. Not sure what can cause Songfile corruption, but it does happen every once in a while. Glad you got it sorted, that's good troubleshooting and problem solving, so many seem to view having to hit New and starting over again from scratch as a terrible thing and thus don't solve their problem speedily. And often expend MORE time and energy trying other things instead. --Mac

By the way, your computer is more than up to the task without using any of the preference settings I mentioned above.

you mentioned windows 8.1
sometimes there are conflicts with new OS's and older programs and drivers.
Might want to run this issue by tech support just in case.

That's a good thought about Windows 8.1. FYI, I'm having no problems running BIAB in Windows 8.1.

Had the problem with Windows 8.0, as well.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Sometimes I just need to vent.
