That is not the case either.

Vacuum tube technology, when implemented as to concerns of noise, can surpass silicon solid state in the category of thermal noise.

The many great tube driven recording mic preamps, touting balanced transformer input and output, stand as only one example of what can be done with the technology.

High End tape recorders of the era are another example. The hiss wasn't due to the tube circuitry, it was inherent in the magnetic tape recording process.
