This is all about wave tracks: I copy the vocal track to a new track to get two tracks. This second track I pitch change 4 cents, this gives me a thicker vocal. But sometimes I Wind up with a nasty robot sound. Does anyone know what's going on ? :-)

Do you shift the copied vocal forward or back a bit, or leave it in place?

If you double click the track, RB opens a menu where you can select the track and make pitch corrections!

Try merely SLIDING the second track copy to the right a few ticks instead of pitch correction. That trick will yield true Chorusing. Experiment with different number of ticks on the slide and listen, there will be stark differences in what you hear depending upon how far down the timeline that second track is slid. This works better than pitch shifting, and is what most pros do for "that" doubled, chorused vocal sound. --Mac

Yes, It's the From-Thru settings.
It should show every time you highlight a section (in the upper right of screen), and should show up when you select any Edit window (like Cut, Copy,)
You can Cut the whole track and Paste it back at 1-1-4
You can highlight it and visually slide it by holding CTRL and clicking to 'slide' it along a timeline
You can Insert a few clicks ahead of the track
Lots of ways of moving data around in RB.
Beware that a few clicks at a Resolution of 1920 is much different than a few clicks at 120.
Many users never change this default setting and it can make things much more accurate.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

You are experiencing comb filtering.... where the frequencies are interfering with each other as the frequency changes relative to the other one..... some add, some subtract, but all will be some mathematical variation of that. A copy is exact and the effect is greater because of that exactness. It's not a good idea to use clones for doubling. The better way to thicken vocals: This is how I do it..... there are other ways to get this happening. Lets assume one lead vocal and 2 harmony vocals in places. Record the lead vocal 3 different times, each in it's own track. Make them as close as possible with regards to vocal pitch and phrasing. Record the 2 harmony tracks also paying attention to pitch and phrasing. Now.... do your pitch correction with Melodyne or VVocal if you have them or need to do this. Select one of the leads as the MAIN vocal. Be sure this is centered. Pan the other two lead vocals 100% left and right. Now pull the faders down to about -20db to start with. Pan the harmony tracks 80% left and right and start at about -16db. You just want the thickening that this will give you, not the obvious sound of double tracked vocals. You should NOT be able to hear the lower level leads unless you solo the vocal bus... the harmonies should be "present" and sound like they are simply a part of the lead vocal. The harmonies in the chorus are intentionally louder than I would normally have them. Listen to the verses, there is harmony in there that is at the levels I spoke of in the -16db range.... in the chorus, I bring them up to around -12db or so. Verse 1 just solo vocal with doubling. Verse 2 doubled with harmony on most of it. The vocals just really seem fatter to the casual listener but it's the harmony. Strat Strat, thanks. Wolf introduced me to my future wife. Our picture is with him near the end of the video. Just the 3 of us. Where the fiddle solos again near the end. You can make something that sounds like this....anyone can. It's a matter of learning what you're doing, asking questions when you don't know something, reading, studying, learning, and mixing as much as you can... not only your stuff, but that of other folks as well. It takes time, but it's attainable. You gotta want it though. Oh yeah, and having the tools to do the job and understand how they work helps too. All this comes as you progress on the path you have chosen. How long it takes to get further down the road is up to you. I still have much to learn to become more consistent in my skills. I'm constantly working on music in one aspect of another. Do the same, ignore the calendar and just keep working on music. One day......

I have never used any outside services....everything I do is "in house" when it comes to mixing and mastering

Herb is rather modest, but i will say in his regard he has really applied himself to learning this craft. I remember well when he first showed up over at Cake MC forum all full of questions and stuff. But he really get good results and that was through hard work.
There is a lot of great talent here.

Robh... I now realize who you are. I wondered where you had gotten off to..... the old MC forum is still getting lots of visitors and many of the old timers are gone now..... Greg and Myself are some of the last remaining from the "old days"...even Beagle has made himself scarce. However, there are a few new guys, sharp as tacks and jumping in to help the noobs. Life goes on.
yes that was a very long time back.... I remember all the problems I had just getting sound.... it took me the better part of 2 weeks to get things working. You and several others were very kind and patient with my bumbling ways.
There's been a lot of water under that old bridge to get to this point.... and there's still a long road ahead to smooth out the wrinkles.

I see him mostly on FB now... seems to be working in Seattle in his profession. They have him going there for a few weeks at a time then returning to Texas for a few weeks and so on....
He seemed to stop posting on CW about the time bapu overtook his post count although I'm sure that was a mere coincidence. But yeah, he's not been on MC in quite some time now.

Yes sir good to see you still around. i have been keeping up on your music.
I have not been around CW much as i don't use the software much anymore. I do have X-1 essentials, I mostly use RB these days it does what i need. I really hjope for a few cool upgrades like better automation and better VSTi usage. Recently i got a free copy of Studio one artist with my new interface (Presonus Audiobox 1818 VSL) and i black fridayed that rascal to the producer level ($49) and i am so far really loving the stability and simplicity of it.
It has a lot of cool features like comping and Melodyne ARA, but it is not quite as complicated as Sonar. I found hopping around X-1 a bit confusing GUI wise.
I did get good results with it, and never had the issues others had. Maybe due to it being essentials not Producer.
Really good chatting with you my friend keep in touch and keep on putting out great stuff.
